Movie Info

An enterprising young man becomes obsessed with trying to bring back the Yosemite Valley Railroad. Perhaps in tribute to great Yosemite photographer Ansel Adams, this drama was filmed in black and white to create a highly stylized view of the beautiful park. The story begins just after WW II in LA where John Lee, a 23-year-old Chinese American, lives. He is a trolley car mechanic and even then strongly desires to revive the 78-mile railroad. His obsession causes deep rifts between him, his family and his lover. Lee would like to save it himself, but he has no money. He manages to convince a financier to keep the railroad alive for one more year. Lee is assisted by Robinson, a old railroad man, a traffic manager, and a beautiful Native American ranger with whom he could have romance if only he weren't so preoccupied by the railroad.more
