Originally made for the Disney Channel, THE COLOR OF FRIENDSHIP is a heartwarming drama based on the true story of a young African girl who learns to cope with racism and her own prejudices during a stay in America. However, the story is the inverse of what one might expect from the premise. Set in 1977, the film follows Ron V. Dellums, an African-American Congressman who volunteers to take in a South African exchange student. Expecting a black student, Dellums soon finds out that their student is really white, and a product of apartheid, no less, who has been raised to treat black people as inferiors. Though both parties are surprised and suspicious of one another initially, their situation forces talk about each others' prejudices and helps teach each party some lessons about racism and tolerance.
