Comic-Con 2006: Marvel Announces Three Big Hero Flicks - "Captain America," "Thor," and "Nick Fury"
Marvel's already well underway on pre-production with "The Incredible Hulk," "Iron Man," and "Ant-Man," and they used San Diego Comic-Con as the time to announce their next three hero-flicks. (And they're all members of The Avengers!)
Courtesy of the non-stop mega-coverage at IGN FilmForce: "The first new movie announced at the panel was "Captain America," which has already seen one film adaptation. After that, Marvel Studios announced plans to make a "Nick Fury" movie. Andrew Marlowe is set to pen the tale of the cigar-chomping leader of S.H.I.E.L.D. The third project announced is "Thor," based on the Nordic Avenger."

Heck, I just saw all three of these superheroes last night ... in the same movie!

Banana Kid writes: on Jul 24 2006 07:15 AM We already know about these, I think. And continuing my casting of Marvel movies: Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury. Last I heard they were using the black Ultimate Nick Fury, and he was based off Samuel L. Jackson to begin with. It's a brainless choice. (Reply to this) |

digitalsoul68 writes: on Jul 24 2006 09:15 AM STOP MAKING EVERY FREAKIN' SUPERHERO INTO A MOVIE I love superhero movies, but is it NECESSARY to have an Ant-man and Nick Fury story?? It's getting too oversaturated with 2nd rate heroes. Superman, Spiderman, and Batman are ICONS so it's logical they would be made into movies. Who outside of the comic book fan knows about Fury or Ant-man and would care? (Reply to this) |

Vitamin M writes: on Jul 24 2006 11:19 AM it probably would have been more expensive but I would have just went with an Avengers movie and then make spin offs based on popularity, at which point the special effects for each character would already be in place and ready for the spin off, it seems less risky. Kind of like how Fox is throwing SilverSurfer into F4-2 instead of his own movie. I vote for the nordic cast of The 13th Warrior to all be in Thor....unless you want to go with the black Thor, in which case it would be Samuel L Jackson...and he would fight snakes...on a plane. cgcbooks writes: on Jul 24 2006 12:08 PM Captain America would be way too corny on film, and so would Thor. With comic books you can get by with anything and it looks decent. The only one that would work would be Nick Fury. It would be more like a James Bond film. But the popularity of these three characters are not that high. Marvel acts like all of their characters are icons. They basically have three. X-men, Spiderman and Fantastic Four. They should just concentrate on those. (Reply to this) |

taran72 writes: on Jul 24 2006 04:36 PM Ant-Man. My God. Furthermore, I agree there's a very slim chance that Captain America can be made into a good movie. An Avengers movie would have been fun. (Reply to this) |

bluefalcon writes: on Jul 24 2006 06:08 PM I disagree. Captain America could be made into a good movie, if it falls into the right hands. Captain America has always been an underated character in my book, he can be far more complex than people give him credit for. The most interesting thing about Captain America is the fact that he continualy fights for a goverment that usualy ends up betraying him (take his story in the House of M series for instance). If they give Captain America to the right director I think it could be a realy good movie. (Reply to this) |

thadeus_79 writes: on Jul 24 2006 07:59 PM I don't care what anyone says, I liked the Captain America that they made in the early 90's. Sure it was campy, but there has been a lot of stupid movies out there. I am calling it right now, there needs to be a Condor Man remake, then my life would be complete. (Reply to this) |

ArmyofJuan writes: on Jul 24 2006 11:02 PM A few things i have to say. 1. The Ant-Man movie will probably be great as a. it's being made into a sort of comedy type thing, basically making fun of him and b. it's being directed by the guy who did shaun of the dead. 2. A captain america movie could be fantastic. I mean, the Red Skull is a great villain and he'd be fighting nazis. Captain America is a great marvel hero that everyone knows about and with the right director can be a fantastic film. 3. Thor could work if you just use norse mythology and have him battling Loki and not putting Thor in modern times. and 4. Nick Fury could also work well with the whole super-spy thing against hydra and stuff. But i think it would be better if they used the original Fury instead of Ultimate Fury. Original Fury has a more grizzled look about him with the brown hair and white underneath. (Reply to this) |

Along that line of thinking the Spider-man and X-men movies would have been corny as hell to. Have you read the first comics? Captain wakes up after years of being frozen to find his government, the thing he fought for, had betrayed him and he comes to be disillusioned with the world, yet he still continues his fight against what he believes is wrong. What the hell is corny about that? (Reply to this) |
