Comic-Con 2006: Don't Hold Your Breath on a "Shaun of the Dead" Sequel
As much as we all adore "Shaun of the Dead" and would love to get another scoop, director Edgar Wright doesn't seem too keen on the idea. With "Hot Fuzz" and "Ant-Man" on the horizon, the filmmaker doesn't look to be repeating himself yet.
From IGN FilmForce: "At a panel at this weekend's San Diego Comic-Con, Director Edgar Wright dispelled rumors of a possible "Shaun of the Dead 2," long rumored to be subtitled "From Dusk 'Til Shaun." Nick Frost added his own humorous title: "Night of the Living Ed." However, humorous titles aside, it looks like the sequel will not be happening. "Shaun of the Dead 2 seems unlikely," Wright said. "We don't want to do a cash-in."
"Hot Fuzz" reunites Wright with his pals Simon Pegg and Nick Frost, and it hits theaters next February. (Check out the production diaries right here!) After that, Mr. Wright will direct "Ant-Man" for Marvel, and that should make for a pretty interesting flick.

![]() on Jul 25 2006 03:25 AM "Shaun of the Dead" and "The 40 yr old Virgin" are two acclaimed 'comedies' I just don't get - they're really not that funny at all... something must have been lost in translation maybe. (Reply to this) |

on Jul 25 2006 04:31 AM Shaun of the Dead is a movie I can watch over and over again, and it never gets old for me. I would love to see a sequel, but am glad they won't do one just for the cash-in. Maybe if they come up with a great idea, they will do it! Those titles they came up with are great, especially "Night of the Living Ed" (Reply to this) |

on Jul 25 2006 07:05 AM Shaun is a hilarious movie. You have to be a fan of British humor, and it sure helps to be a horror movie fan, but I thought it was the best movie of 2004. I agree, a sequel would be fun, but they didn't exactly leave the door open for one... they'd really have to stretch. For now, I'm content looking forward to "Hot Fuzz". (Reply to this) |

on Jul 25 2006 07:55 AM Thank goodness. Its so disappointing when studios make sequels just to cash in on the popularity of the original, almost always resulting in an inferior product. (Reply to this) |

on Jul 25 2006 09:19 AM There's nothing wrong with a sequel if it's done right by the creators of the original, (Empire Strikes Back, Terminator 2, Clerks II, etc.) It's when the studio that owns the name does a cheap, quickie "cash-in" circumventing the the artists who made the first one so great and popular, that makes for the stinkers, (too many to name). I would love to see a "Shaun" sequel done by the same fellas because I know they would do it right. Apparently they are not as confident as I. Long live the Winchester! (Reply to this) |

on Jul 25 2006 09:49 AM Half the fun of Shaun is the references to other zombie flicks (and there are a lot of them) and the really brilliant bits of homage. By doing such an excellent "parody" of zombie movies, the creators actually ended up making what I consider the ultimate zombie movie! Much like what the original Scream did with slasher films. I can understand if you didn't "get" Shaun - half of the "translation" is having a good grasp on the source material. Case in point, at one point they are talking to Shaun's mom, Barabara, on the phone, and Ed grabs the receiver and shouts, "We're coming to get you, Barbara!" That's an absolutely brilliant bit of scripting, but only if you know the reference to the original Night of the Living Dead. I was really enjoying the movie up to that point, but at that moment I fell in love with this film. One of my favorite movies, and I agree one I can watch again and again and find new nuggets of joy.
