Surfer Spin-Off to Give the Origin Story
Like, where'd he buy that surfboard?
If you were among those who found The Silver Surfer the most interesting character (by far) in Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer, then one screenwriter has good news for you. We could be looking at a Surfer "origin" story for the guy's spin-off movie.
Screenwriter J. Michael Straczynski told a Comic Con panel that not only will the spin-off contain more of the Surfer (obviously), but also that we'll all delve into the guy's origins, motivations, and overall groovy attitude. According to IGN Movies, here's some of what the scribe had to say: "It picks up right where the FF movie left off and it's designed to answer the questions that were asked in the movie but really weren't dealt with there, which [were]: Where did he come from, why did he become the Surfer and what is he doing here now?"
Mr. Straczynski is an old-school TV veteran who has worked on shows as varied as Jake and the Fatman, Babylon 5, Murder She Wrote, Jeremiah, and He-Man and the Masters of the Universe. No word yet on if we'll be seeing a third (Surfer-free) Fantastic Four flick. Or maybe we did get that word and I just forgot.

on Jul 30 2007 04:52 AM Hmmm, JMS, eh? Makes me want to give it a chance. As long as it isn't goofy like FF was. And just let Doug Jones do the damn voice, FFS. (Reply to this) |

on Jul 30 2007 05:26 AM how is this news? anybody with half a brain knows thats what they were going to do. what, he woulda stayed on earth and been friends with FF? thats not a spinoff, thats another FF sequel. unless its in flashback form...this seems to avoid the "dude, we can't put some giant purple weiner up on the screen man!" debacle because galactus won't be in it. not really news...just reassuring the obvious. still, this might be decent...especially since he hinted Alba looked alot like his chic back home. still, its not really a lock to be decent... on Jul 30 2007 06:09 AM It needs to be based on the kick *** epic backstory that was conceived in the sixties. When are more studios going to trust the stories written in the comic books? (Like Sin City Did?) (Reply to this) |

on Jul 30 2007 06:26 AM I have a great idea for the next movie, check this out... Let's take every single character ever created and tell their "origin" story. I say we start with the chick who plays "SCREAMING WOMAN" in Spiderman 2 (not spiderman 3, she was a poor casting choice - too much "EEK" not enough "AAAAH!"). Then for a semi-sequel to that, we'll follow the back story of that kid Batman gives his nightvision periscope to in Batman Begins. It'll start out with him playing in the sand box and for the inciting moment - a devastating blow to the child's ego where the bully not only takes his favorite wagon, but gives him a scraped up knee!!!! sorry... i've been doing nothing but studying for the past 2 weeks. i'll snap out of it i'm sure... ![]() on Jul 31 2007 09:00 PM In reply to this comment (#992954) djdaganator, you are 100% right and i wish someone could revamp this series before i die. this should never had happen to comic's first and greatest family and god do i everyone involved in these two all time bombs, excluding doug jones. on top of the list has to be Tim Story who joins the likes of Joel Schumacher and Brett Ratner as some of the worst directors ever to helm a comic book feature. And on Alba, i would think she would be a great actress if only they did silent films again! Boy, she is scorching hot but can't act to save herself just like Halle Berry. (Reply to this) |
