Frank Miller Faults Weinsteins for Sin City 2 Delay
But he's a pretty busy guy himself these days.
While sitting on a Comic Con panel, Frank Miller was asked about the hold-up on Sin City 2. (Numerous times, probably.) And it looks like the celebrated author / artist / filmmaker is laying the blame solely at the feet of the Weinstein brothers.
Could it be that Grindhouse threw a monkey wrench into future Weinstein production plans? Sheer speculation on my part, but I'd have thought a Sin City sequel would be a no-brainer by this point. Then again, both Frank Miller and Robert Rodriguez are presently hard at work on other projects -- to say nothing of the large number of busy actors who'd be needed. So there's probably enough "blame" to go around, really.
According to Dark Horizons, Mr. Miller "confirmed that he and Robert Rodriguez have a script ready - an adaptation of A Dame to Kill and some of the book's other short stories -- but left the cryptic hint that the Weinstein's themselves are part of the hold up -- likely tying into the fledgling distributor's lack of success so far at the box-office."
OK, so the Weinsteins didn't exactly set the world on fire with Grindhouse, Miss Potter, Bobby, The Matador, Derailed, Pulse, Breaking and Entering, Harsh Times, DOA: Dead or Alive, The Gathering, Unknown, The Ex, Nomad, School for Scoundrels, Black Christmas, Arthur and the Invisibles, or Factory Girl -- but they're doing OK with 1408 and Sicko. Plus they've got some treats in store (Grace Is Gone is excellent, The Mist sounds great so far) for later this year. And maybe someday they'll actually release Killshot, Teeth and Rogue and make a few dollars off of 'em. Still it's tough to feel bad for the guys who put money behind Who's Your Caddy? and Hannibal Rising. Then again, Clerks 2 was pretty darn funny.
Anyway, yeah: Sin City 2. As the highway signs sometimes say: Expect delays.

on Jul 30 2007 05:59 AM Is there ever going to be a news story about Frank Miller where he's *not* complaining about or blaming someone else for something? (Reply to this) |

on Jul 30 2007 06:12 AM Man, I've been reading Frank Miller since Daredevil #158 (recognizing his genius since then too); he does complain a lot; I imagine it makes life hard on the set and in the conferences for the rest of the crowd who aren't such "geniuses"; I think "sin city" could have used some dialog balloons up there on the screen for two reasons-- to fill up all that black space in the frame every 15 minutes or so and to help us catch all that wonderful Miller-esque post modern noir dialog.... see my weird and free multi media fiction: www.lostharvest.com (Reply to this) |

on Jul 30 2007 07:20 AM In reply to this comment (#990688) PLEASE tell me what that means FILMdude. i've asked the peeps at da Busta and they say it means "its only available here"(obviously, the very nature of "exclusive") and well...its not. you can netflix it and get it anywhere. why the h3ll say "exclusively at Da Busta" if its NOT exclusively at da Busta?! dumb FALSE marketing like the "no late fee" thing? nope no late fee...just a restocking fee that serves the EXACT same purpose... on Jul 30 2007 09:40 AM They went along with The Ex, Who`s your caddy?, and Pulse and they`re skeptical that Sin City 2 won`t be successful. (Reply to this) |
![]() on Jul 30 2007 12:57 PM In reply to this comment (#990702) It's exclusive to Blockbuster for rent, they have a two year contract. You can BUY any of their movies at any dvd store though. Actually, the restocking fee is totally different from late fees. If you were two weeks late on a two day rental that cost four dollars you would have to pay around 24 dollars in late fees and COULD NOT keep the movie. If you are two weeks late on a two day rental nowadays at BLockbuster it costs you 1.25. 24 dollars and a 1.25 are not the same thing. The only thing they have in common is they put some sort of penalty on cheap procrastinators. (Reply to this) |

on Jul 30 2007 03:19 PM The exclusive at Blockbuster thing is pointless. We have a chain in my state (I say that because I don not know if it is national or not, but a big chain all the Midwest states anyway) called Hollywood Video, and I was talking with the manager about the exclusive to Blockbuster release and he says their corporate headquarters just orders those titles for all their stores through Walmart Online. "Blac Xmas," "Factory Girl," "Harsh Times" I recently rented all at Hollywood Video and not Blockbuster, despite being Blockbuster "exclusive". FYI, I'm sorry I rented any of those titles at all. I'd say %u2018**** the Weinstiens!%u2019 at this point for all the crap movies they have begun churning out lately and then doing some lame **** like this Blockbuster deal, sitting on "Sin City 2" and splitting up "Grindhouse " for DVD, but they are still the only studio giving us stuff like "Grindhouse" and "Sin City" (albeit with a ton of other crap too, but its not their fault movie goers are too dumb to embrace their best products). on Jul 30 2007 06:36 PM People I am going to tell you what the problem is. Dimension films does not, i repeat, does not ADVERTISE THEIR MOVIES. I remember days where they had big box-office successes such as the Scream trilogy, The Faculty, Halloween sequels, and other movies. I just think if they advertise more, then the weisteins wouldn't have much to worry about. Or if the weistiens move to a better productions company, because the proudcers are not to blame in situations like these, for if they don't get the advertisement that they need, then who reall sees them or knows about these movies. on Jul 30 2007 11:47 PM BTW, "KILLSHOT" LOOKS GREAT. GET IT OUT ALREADY! I REALIZE YOU NEED ROOM IN THE SCHEDUAL FOR YET ANOTHER "SCARY MOVIE," BUT, YOU KNOW, WHEN YOU GET AROUND TO IT. ****in' idiots! (Reply to this) |

on Jul 31 2007 12:52 PM Did anyone else go out and buy the 300 DVD? If so, were you as severely underwhelmed as I was by the special features? This movie made hundreds of millions of dollars basically off fanboy good will and they couldn't give us more than a directors commentary? What BS. I'm not big on fans saying it, but they owe us more. I'm sure there's a collectors edition somewhere out there, but it wasn't in the store I got my copy at and should I really have to pay $10 more to see even basic DVD features? Greedy bastards!!! on Aug 02 2007 06:09 PM In reply to this comment (#990617) this guy only posted to pat himself on the back for purportedly discovering frank miller's ' "genius" ' and make that inane daredevil reference. and yeah, i did use a pair of single quotes around a pair of double quotes on the word genius because this dude said that word in the beginning of his comment and then decided he should use quotation marks on his own use of the word later in the paragraph. 100% d-bag.
