X-Men fans, rejoice! The first footage from Gavin Hood's X-Men Origins: Wolverine flick debuted today at Comic-Con, revealing "bad ass" clips... and the screen debut of one particularly long-awaited member of the X-Men family.
According to IGN Movies, Jackman made a surprise appearance at this morning's 20th Century Fox presentation of Wolverine, the upcoming X-Men spin-off that will reveal the military experimental origin of James Howlett AKA Logan AKA Wolverine.

Fresh from wrapping production, Jackman introduced footage of "berserker rage" that should leave fans panting for the film's May 2009 release. Not only did Comic-Con attendees get to see how Logan got his infamous adamantium claws and skeleton, they were also treated to glimpses at familiar comics characters Sabretooth (Liev Schreiber), Deadpool (Ryan Reynolds), Wraith (Will. I. Am.) and The Blob (Kevin Durand).
And although the sight of Wolverine ripping and clawing his way out of the Weapon X compound was a thrill in itself, the inhabitants of Hall H got a surprise treat with the introduction of a certain card-throwing Cajun. Gambit, played by Friday Night Lights actor Taylor Kitsch, will make his first big-screen appearance in Wolverine (after being conspicuously absent from all three previous X-Men films) and was shown in scenes riding a motorcycle and hurling his signature kinetically-charged playing cards.
Head over to IGN Movies for a full breakdown of the Wolverine footage shown at Comic-Con.

Iamremote01 writes: on Jul 24 2008 04:11 PM Does anyone have high hopes for this film? Considering the tone of the X-Men films, they paved away to a really strong Iron Man outing, and it's doubtful Wolverine will be better than that. And with The Dark Knight and (presumably) Watchmen doing something great with the genre, this feels like to me like it's going to get lost in the shuffle along side the likes of Ghost Rider, Daredevil, and others. But, I guess we'll see. (Reply to this) |

Greg_Arious writes: on Jul 24 2008 04:34 PM I have high hopes for this. It looks like its gonna be a lot darker and more substantive than the other X films and other Marvel films which I prefer. And Gambit alone is a reason to be excited about this movie. More excited about this than Ant Man thats for damn sure. (Reply to this) |

idontgetit writes: on Jul 24 2008 04:37 PM still not sure if i like Gambit being in this movie. And i am a little worried about how they will present Deadpool being this is not going to be an R film. But Wolverine is an incredibly compelling character and there is no reason this cant be good. But there are plenty of ways it could suck. (Reply to this) |

Holiday03 writes: on Jul 24 2008 04:43 PM why has wolverines mask been absent in the past 3 films and seems to be absent in this one? that is part of his look, and yes i know there is a lot more to the character than the mask, but i mean come on, the whole excuse that "it's not possible " to make is bs. i never liked jackman in the role, in these promo pics he looks to clean cut and just stylized, when if i am correct, wolverine could care less about his appearance. i mean yeah, jackman has a beard but its like perfectly salon trimmed and everything. but oh well, lets see how the rest of the characters pan out, but i swear if deadpool and gambit are just wearing some black leather counter parts to their outfits then i'm gonna be pissed. Matanuki writes: on Jul 24 2008 08:31 PM In reply to this comment (#1919748) I am happy that Gambit is finally making his screen debut. Can't wait to see him. Ditto that for Deadpool and a respectable Sabertooth. Though I had my misgivings about the X:Men films, I always thought (and was initially surprised) that Jackman nailed Wolverine. Highlights for me were the opening to the first film when he has the cage fight and is seen for the first time smoking his cigar, when he introduces himself to Rogue, "My name's Logan", and that scene in X:2 when he went berserker on Stryker's guys in the mansion. So color me excited and very hopeful for this film. You make a good point about Iron Man, TDK, and what Watchmen is looking like. But I disagree, I think Wolverine can definitely carve himself a place in the ranks of stellar comic book renditions. And with, by the way, what we've seen so far from Marvel Production (Iron Man, Incredible Hulk), I think it's a safe expectation that this film will not fall among the likes of Daredevil, Elektra, and Ghost Rider. thereign writes: on Jul 24 2008 10:13 PM I've never understood the fascination with Gambit. To me, he was always one of the lamer characters around(He throws kinetically charged PLAYING CARDS! Ooohhh!). Anyway, I'm not thrilled with either the characters or the cast members, but like everyone else I'll be there, because I want to see if they do a good job with this film. And though Jackman has a lot of say in this film, let's not forget he also executive produced Deception, which blew hard. (Reply to this) |

davechung writes: on Jul 25 2008 12:57 AM I happened to be in Hall H for this one. The Wolverine footage was pretty sick (positive connotation). I was blown away and Jackman was REALLY enthusiastic about the movie, with good reason. It's an origin story, but the clip showed a much more fierce Wolverine than we're used to seeing from the X-Men series. Even in an auditorium filled with Twilight fans, people were really impressed by the Wolverine clip. I'm definitely going to see it. (Reply to this) |

John Z. Delorean writes: on Jul 25 2008 03:10 AM In reply to this comment (#1920691) Aside from playing cards he can charge up just about anything including a person and Gambit can go toe to toe with Wolverine and has even beaten him on occasion. Not that I'm cool with gambit being in a wolverine origin movie but it beats wasting him in a crappy X-men movie. I'm glad Sabretooth isn't cast as a big goon as he was in the X movies he's more psychopath than brute. (Reply to this) |

oilysoils writes: on Jul 25 2008 03:17 AM To answer your question, apparently they tried giving him a mask in the first Xmen film and it looked dufus.Personally I think Wolverine looks better without the mask and costume cause he has that crazy hair style and sideburns that identify him as Wolverine. He really doesn't need that crap. I'm not a rabid Xmen fanboy, but for me they work best when they are drawn with costumes that look the same sort of like Fantastic Four all have teh same look in uniform. Also what is really the point of his mask? He really doesn't need to hide his identity. Everyone pretty much knows who he is don't they, so why bother? Jackman may be too tall for the role at 6'2" , but he rocks as Wolverine. I never understood why they made wolverine so small too. He's supposed to be like 5'3" isn't he? That seems way too small for such a bad_ss character. Maybe they would have done better to have made him like 5'7 or 5'8 sort of like Bruce Lee. (Reply to this) |

brownitus writes: on Jul 25 2008 07:04 AM So I'm guessing the film will be all about Logan before the X-Men movies? I really hate prequel-types :( But it should be dope, he really IS Wolverine, despite his height :D (Reply to this) |

Jen Yamato writes: on Jul 25 2008 08:45 AM In reply to this comment (#1921652) Yup, it's a prequel. You get to see Logan before, during, and after his adamantium procedure, which should be interesting...ick. That always sounded so painful to me. This reminds me, I should dig up my old X-Men cards... (Reply to this) |

Moonpig123 writes: on Jul 27 2008 03:22 AM Sounds OK, although I personally don't like Gambit. Love Sabretooth, though!I hope his image is pulled off right this time; more of a psychopath and feral hunter than a simple henchman. I'm still a bit wary though...prequel movies tend to have that great divide of either being very well done or completely awful. (Reply to this) |

TombstoneLawDog writes: on Jul 29 2008 07:19 AM M'pig- while you mention it, WHICH prequels were you thinking of as 'very well done'? I suppose 'Temple of Doom' was pretty good.. I just can't think of any others, just now. I can think of a few sh#tty ones... All the links to this movie were yanked before I got to see them. I will remain cautiously optimistic about this movie. Jackman has done a pretty fair job with this character, despite being watered down thus far for a more family-friendly appearance. Bring on some FERAL @SS-WHUPPIN' (Reply to this) |
