It's official; Twilight, based on the young adult novel series, is a phenomenon in the making. Fans got exactly what they came for and then some when the film's cast and filmmakers unveiled new footage at Comic-Con and answered questions about the teen vampire flick, which hits theaters this December.
Director Catherine Hardwicke (Thirteen, Lords of Dogtown) and novelist Stephanie Meyer came to share details with the Comic-Con crowd, but it was Twilight's cast of young stars, including Kristen Stewart, Cam Gigandet, and Taylor Lautner, that got the biggest reaction. Well, moreso for 22-year-old Robert Pattinson, who is poised to break out this winter as Edward, Twilight's devastatingly handsome male lead and the vampire half of its central star-crossed pair.
MTV's Larry Carroll guesstimated that 6,500 fans were in attendance for Thursday's packed panel in Hall H, where screaming hordes of Twilight faithful began cheering even before the presentation began. Among other details, Hardwicke confirmed that the film's soundtrack would feature a song by Muse as well as an original composition by star Pattinson, who was rumored to be writing the story's "Bella's Lullaby."
In addition to taking questions from the crowd, the panelists debuted extended footage from the ballet school fight below, which was first seen on MTV last June. Comic-Con fans got to see additional footage from the fight, including earlier moments when Bella is terrorized by bad vampire James (Gigandet), Edward comes to her rescue, and Bella is bitten. (OMG!)
While we wait for Twilight's Comic-Con footage to hit the web, check out the previously released clip of the ballet school fight below.

snowridegirl writes: on Jul 24 2008 11:18 PM I went to see the Twilight panel discussion today along will thousands of other people. It was OK. It was great to see a piece of the fight scene, a bit longer than what has already been released, though we'd hoped they show more. In fact we sort of wished they'd share more! While "Jacob" and the villain vamps seemed coherent and articulate--answering questions thoroughly and enthusiastically (as did the writer and director) and showed fabulous enthusiasm and appreciation for the film and their fans, "Bella" and "Edward" left much to be desired and lacked any enthusiasm toward the film, their characters, and their fans. Because they are the main characters everyone was talking about their disappointment when we left. The people behind me thought "Edward" was "drunk" (though I believe he was just REALLY nervous about all of the female attention next to what appears to be his flame, Kristin) and another eluded to the same about "Bella". And While both actors dodged questions, perhaps out of shock because of the fanatics, they kept to themselves, both playing with their own hair through the whole thing, Kristin sat down and poured Robert a glass of water, they play fought, and when much to do was made of "Edward" and his female fans screamed....a mom asking "boxers or briefs?"....a girl confessing "I want YOU Robert!", Kristin sat sulking, obviously bothered by the attention he was paid. They left more quickly and without Thank yous as the actors from the other films had done, they posed briefly for a photo-op, Kristin resting her head against Robert's neck and shoulder. SO, it was unfortunate that these two actors lacked respect for the fans who waited overnight in line and flew in from out of state to see them, to hear them DISCUSS their CHARACTERS. Any actor knows they will be asked basic questions and can easily have a prepared answer if they fear they won't be able to on the spot. "What drew you to this film?", "How did you prepare for the character?", "How do you relate or differ from the character?", "What are your favorite scenes?" Not complicated or deep questions by any means, definitely not unexpected questions. It would have been nice if they hadn't shown up will such a lack of regard for Comicon and for their fans. Again, the rest of the cast, the author, and director, were all gracious and well spoken so they made it worth the line *wink* (Reply to this) |

davechung writes: on Jul 25 2008 12:53 AM I was there as well... I have to say that there is little fandom that compares to Twilight fandom - dedication like one wouldn't believe. I'm with alisonb on the whole Rob/Kristen thing. More than anything, I think that it was difficult for the panel to try and answer questions with any sort of seriousness because people were yelling out "Rob, I love you!!" "DAZZLE ME!!!" and "Stephenie Meyer, I love you!!" every few seconds. For better or worse :) Pattinson looked all kinds of nervous - I think I can count the number of coherent sentences he formed the whole time on one hand (but again, he kept being interrupted). I can't see Twilight being the 2nd biggest movie of the year, but it'll definitely surprise some people who haven't seen it coming already. One of the coolest parts about the panel was the unexpected appearance of Dakota fanning, who missed the Push panel, but came back just to apologize and say hello! I thought it was a really classy move by her - look out, Abigail Breslin, D-Kota's back. (Reply to this) |

nogard46 writes: on Jul 25 2008 01:43 AM people better start to recognise, look at all the book sales and all the buzz on the search engines and on myspace. I can't even imagine what is going through Robert Patt's head. He has no clue what hes gotten himself into, basically Edward is the ultimate teen girl fanatsy. The looks, the physicality, the danger. Well all I know is I'm probably going to dress up vampire for the release of the film. (Reply to this) |

mcwf1 writes: on Jul 26 2008 09:15 AM In reply to this comment (#1921223) I must be in the same demographic. 23 white male and I sat through the previews for TDK, and this was easily the cheesiest looking movie I've seen in quite a while. Now, take my words with a grain of salt, as I've not read or become even remotely familiar with the books this movie is based on, but the trailer didn't make me want to get familiar whereas the Watchmen trailer had me in the comic store and buying my first comic in well over a decade. I suppose in the same way that the Shoot Em' Up trailer made me squeal like a little girl a little while back, this trailer made the girls scream like... men? (Reply to this) |

snowridegirl writes: on Jul 26 2008 11:14 AM As I said, many people were talking about how Robert appeared "drunk", he was "acting weird" and "out of it" (other peoples' words) and I believe he was just intimidated and overwhelmed by the whole event. However, these actors signed on to film a best selling novel in the teen romance genre and were well aware of the attention it would garner. AND having attended many of the comicon film panels and being involved in the film industry, it is widely known that the purpose of the comicon panels is for the cast, writers and directors to interact with the fans and promote their respective films. There is always a huge buzz of rabid fans who make inappropriate remarks at this event for all of the films and typically the actors don't have a problem answering questions completely (Keanu Reeves, Hugh Jackman, Mark Walberge, Dakota Fanning, Mila Kunis all had no problem dealing with excited fans). I'm not sure if you, Alison, are personal friends with Kristin but someone ought to warn her boyfriend that she has another crush (also commented on by attendees and responses on youtube). The two of them (Kristin and Robert) addressed each other in private conversation many times while the rest of the cast faced and talked to the audience, in addition to many other things. Robert has said that Kristin is his celebrity crush. Sorry luv! *wink*I am great, no problem, but thanks! Again, its simply disappointing for a lot of people there who traveled, waited in line overnight and paid to get in. Fortunately I didn't have to do any of that to be there, but I heard it from a lot of people and it simply is what was being said there. While I can understand that for a fan who wasn't able to attend this event is probably thrilled to see the newly posted footage on youtube (sincerely), the entire discussion isn't posted, and what is, lacks the experience of being there. There are a few longer pieces of the Q and A up and if you watch and listen to the comments made by the photographer and if you read the comments in response to it, you can see that many fans saw on youtube what we at the event saw. Again, I'm sure Robert wasn't used to all of this attention but for someone who is usually well spoken, it was disappointing to not hear what he and Kristin had to say. Typically in this situation its better if the moderator asks more questions so the fans aren't making inappropriate remarks and the cast can generate more well thought out responses to the questions. overall, it was really cool to be present ;) (Reply to this) |

Whetcherry writes: on Jul 28 2008 09:27 AM In reply to this comment (#1920847) I was at Comic Con Panel- and the youtube videos, don't do the poor interview justice. I agree with snowridegirl- about Rob and Kristen- not relationship-wise, but by the way they conducted themselves during the panel. In person, it was obvious to many that they were indeed 'under the influence.' It was a huge disappointment, especially for those who were not only looking forward to the Twilight experience themselves, but who also brought some of the younger fans (12-18 year olds- the target audience) in tow. The journey and the lines that we had to wait in were a challenge for many- but that is to be expected. None of that mattered and paled in comparison when considering that we were all doing it for Twilight. I had 4 younger cousins with me, and we were stuck in 5.5 hours of traffic- what would have been an hour trip- and yes, we left early (Dakota Fanning was stuck in 7 hours of traffic). And in return, the reception we found...the endless fidgeting, constant water drinking from sometimes empty cups-we could see that during the close-ups, the jaw clenching and incoherency...I don't know...I was only hoping that none of my girls had noticed- but 2 of them did, and asked me about it. I was utterly disappointed. Not to say that actors aren't allowed to go and have fun, to be under the influence... If I ran into them at a night club, I wouldn't think anything of it. But at the first major press event (in CALI)... with all the kids around...I don't know, it seems a little off-putting. (Reply to this) |

scarlettthecat401 writes: on Jul 30 2008 05:46 AM They were not "under the influence" nor are they. Both Rob and Kristen looked cripplingly nervous. They were obviously uncomfortable with being in front of 6000 screaming girls. Rob kept being asked idiotic questions ("boxers or briefs" was unbelievable, and then the girl had the kahunas to ask Kristen if she knew; that's so disrespectful and immature) and Kristen, on top of being continually criticized by the Twilight community, is always nervous in front of crowds. So cut them some slack, just because they were fidgeting doesn't mean they're drunk or high. On the contrary, I was VERY disappointed with the fans. I felt bad for the entire panel when it came down to it, because no one deserves fans who ask questions like "What's it like to play a super-hot sexy vampire?" Honestly, get a life. Oh, and since when can a guy and girl not be really good friends without any romantic relationship? They are firends; Kristen's dating the kid from Sky High and I think (but I'd check this out for yourself) that Rob is dating Nikki Reed. Done, over with. He probably was kidding when he said that in those Seventeen interviews, he seems to be a funny guy. Let it go, it's not gonna happen. (Reply to this) |

reapermad writes: on Jul 30 2008 12:11 PM Is anyone else tired of these PG-13 horror films? Horror films should be hard and in your face psychologically or violently R rated. This Twilight crap looks like a semi-darker version of Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Granted, I haven't read the book, and don't want to, but this looks too clean cut and nice looking to really push any new envelope in the genre. (Reply to this) |
