Ron Perlman to Play "Conan" ... sort of.
by Scott Weinberg | October 19, 2005

Those who've been patiently awaiting an all-new "Conan" movie may find themselves mildly intrigued by a project called "Conan: Red Nails," which is a feature-length animated adventure from the folks at Swordplay Entertainment. (And they have a pretty cool voice cast lined up, too.)

According to The Hollywood Reporter, "Ron Perlman has signed on to voice Conan of Cimmeria for Swordplay Entertainment's "Conan: Red Nails," the first animated film featuring the mythic barbarian. Marg Helgenberger and James Marsden also are joining the voice cast, which includes Clancy Brown, Cree Summer and Mark Hamill. The film will be directed by Victor Dal Chele, with a screenplay by Steve Gold and Timothy Dolan."

OK, so it's not the John Milius Conanfest we were hoping for, but it's better than nothing!

Oh, I chipped a Red Nail...
Cree and Mark are the superstars of voicing. I'd be surprised if they weren't involved with a project. I can only assume this is for DVD - I just hope it's better than Lady Death, which was pretty plain.

I'm just shocked that it's not called Conan the... something. Is this Crom-worshipper fighting a beautician? :D

Finally a faithful adaptation of Conan...
Judging by your post, you aren't familiar with Conan other than what was on the big screen.

Red Nails is the title of one of the Conan stories written by Robert E. Howard. The animation project is supposed to be the first in a line of direct to DVD adaptations of REH's Conan stories. If the story is adapted faithfully you won't have to worry about a "G" rating.

Although there is a strong following for the movie versions of Conan, there is just as strong a following for fans of the written works. A project like this has the potential to please fans on both sides of the fence.

While the big screen version of Conan has yet to unfold, we can at least take rest in knowing that we'll have some sort of Conan to watch in 2006.

Cool beans! I've always wanted to get into the Conan mythos, so I'll be checking out this DVD (possibly blind buying it).

I love the Conan books and I hope this project works out great. I am not sure there is a legion of fans waiting to see Conan on film again. But, if Bilbo, Frodo, and Gandalf can overcome Bakshi and Rankin/Bass then I guess anything is possible...

Conan
"Crush your enemies see them driven before you and to hear the lamentations of the women"

I bet the cartoon will be better than any non John Milius live action movie...
I like Robert Rodriguez, but just can't picture, or don't want to picture his vision of Conan... John Milius got it right !
