Howard Hughes' anachronistic saga is one of the worst films ever made with an embarrassing performance of John Wayne as Genghis Khan the Warrior. The Duke later said: I've been extolled as rough American hero, and the public won't take anything else.

Did The Conqueror, shot during bomb testing, kill John Wayne? Many of the cast and crew members contracted various kinds of cancer and died, including director Dick Powell and actors Susan Hayward, Agnes Moorehead, Thomas Gomez and Pedro Armendariz.
