Fleming's film begins promisingly as a black comedy a la Heathers, but then quickly succumbs to its machinery of special effects; this is yet another bad picture in a long list of Hollywood flops about witchcraft.

The 1970s-style special effects do little to distract us from an uneven script, direction and performances. Yet there's enough here for us to hope it'll come together.

How I do enjoy teen girl movies about witchcraft! This doesn't even make an effort to be intelligent, yet its plot is a sight more fresh than any mainstream gothfest I've seen in a while. It helps that Fairuza Balk scares the crap out of me.

    1. Rochelle: She probably doesn't have any powers anyways. [Bonnie snickers and they turn to walk away]
    2. Sarah: [Sarah turns, pissed off, the wind starts blowing really hard and the clouds rolls in. A lightning bolt hits a branch and falls, almost hitting Bonnie and Rochelle who manages to jump out of the way. They look at her in horror.] Be careful. You don't want to end up like Nancy.
    3. Nancy: [Nurse looks into a room. Nancy is strapped into a bed in a psych ward] AH!!! [nurse walks in] It's you! It's you! He gave me power! I can do whatever I want now! I can fly! [nurse injects Nancy in the side] I can--OW! Ow, ow!
    4. Nurse: He gave you something honey, but it ain't the power.
    5. Nancy: But I can fly! I'm flying! I'm flying! I'm flying! I'm flying! I'm flying! I'm flying! I'm flying! I'm flying!

    1. Nancy: Why aren't you dead?
    2. Sarah: He came to me. Saved me. [Nancy picks off a roach crawling on her face] Oh and he wanted me to give you a message: You're in deep shit. He says you've abused what he's given you and you're gonna have to pay the price.
    3. Nancy: Did he?
    4. Sarah: He did.

    1. Lirio: You can defeat those who challenge you, but you must surrender yourself to the high power. [lights one candle and the rest lights up] You must invoke the spirit.
    2. Sarah: But it made Nancy crazy.
    3. Lirio: She takes it to a dark place. Don't be afraid. Invoke--
    4. Sarah: I can't.
    5. Lirio: There's no other way.

    1. Lirio: Well then understand this: whatever you send out, you get back times three.
    2. Rochelle: Wait, we didn't read that in any book.
    3. Lirio: No, it's part of a basic spiritual truth, said in may ways in many faiths. 'Do on to others as you would have them do onto you.'
