Consensus: Essentially mindless and deficient of plot, but filled with style and dark, lurid energy, The Crow is an action-packed visual feast.

On the eve of his wedding, Eric Draven and his fiancee are attacked by criminals, she is viciously assaulted and both are murdered. Draven, once a loving man, returns to the nightmarish city. With the crow as Charon, Draven steps out of the night as a killer instead of a victim. It packs a significant punch, grabbing you right away and never really letting go -- even when it descends into predictable action-caper cliches.

The film that killed and immortalized its star still holds up quite well . . . I doubt (Lee) would have been so fondly recalled had he died on the set of Laser Mission.

A testament to the lost potential of the late Brandon Lee.

I liked Lee in the title role. He just deserved to be in a better film.

Follows an entirely predictable path, but does so with style and intensity.

Lee is sensational on all counts in a final performance that brims over with athleticism and ardor.

[The] film is much more interesting visually than in story, which is merely a superficial excuse for the violent dispatching of bad guys.

If he had to die so soon, this movie is the best and most appropriate sendoff Lee could have hoped for.

[Proyas] employed a lot of talent in order to make this film heavy with the dark atmosphere of gritty, rainy megalopolis without hope for its inhabitans.

The Crow allows no room for the viewer to take a breath, as it blazes with breakneck speed from scene to scene.

Bursting with startling images, eclectic staging, and gorgeous neo-gothic set design...it looks and feels truer to its roots than any dozen Batmans or Dick Tracys.

It is a stunning work of visual style - the best version of a comic book universe I've seen - and Brandon Lee clearly demonstrates in it that he might have become an action star, had he lived.
