"Batman & Robin" Writer Gets $4 Million for "Da Vinci" Prequel
Oscar-winning screenwriter Akiva Goldsman is allegedly earning a $4 million dollar paycheck for his adaptation of Dan Brown's "Angels & Demons," which features the character played by Tom Hanks in an adventure that predates what went on in "The Da Vinci Code." Ashton Kutcher ambushed the top two spots at the North American box office this weekend playing an animated mule and a Coast Guard rookie in Open Season and The Guardian, respectively. Both films enjoyed strong openings pumping in a combined $40M and helped the marketplace beat last year's levels for the first time in four weeks. Fansite: Spielberg Will Not Direct "World of Warcraft"
It appears that Steven Spielberg will not have another movie with the words "war" and "world" in his filmography. Dan Brown's novel "The Da Vinci Code" has the rep as a page-turner with more intellectual heft than your average pulp. So it comes as something of a surprise that Ron Howard's film adaptation, premiering at Cannes, is so stagnant. It feels more like a walk through a museum than a thriller about conspiracy that could shake Christianity to its very core.
