Anyone who's a fan of Wes Anderson's perfectly quirky films (Bottle Rocket, Rushmore, The Royal Tenenbaums, The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou) should rejoice at the news that the trailer for his latest perfectly quirky film, The Darjeeling Limited, is now online!

The Darjeeling Limited tells the story of a trio of brothers (Adrien Brody, Owen Wilson, and Jason Schwartzman) embarking on a spiritual journey through India on a train called the Darjeeling Limited. Judging from the trailer (and poster!), we can expect more of Anderson's signature style, if a bit tamer than in his last endeavor, The Life Aquatic.

Anderson's films have always borne remarkable soundtracks -- using Seu Jorge's Bowie covers in The Life Aquatic, "These Days" by Nico in The Royal Tenanbaums. The Darjeeling trailer closes with The Kinks' "Strangers," and if that song doesn't warm your wistful heart, then you simply have icewater running through your veins.

Anderson, whose past co-scripting endeavors with Wilson on Bottle Rocket and Rushmore arguably yielded his best work, co-wrote Darjeeling with star Schwartzman and fellow filmmaker Roman Coppola. Coppola also appears in the film.

Though you can't really tell from the trailer, the film also features Natalie Portman, Camilla Rutherford, newcomer Amara Karan, and Anderson favorite Anjelica Huston.

The Darjeeling Limited will be released September 28 and will open the 45th New York Film Festival.

Wes is one of the best. Rushmore and Tenenbaums are probably my faves. Great style, and I love his American Express commercial. IFC once ran a great show on him making Tenenbaums. It might be on the DVD, I'm not sure.

I wonder if it will even be deemed necessary by the internets for Anderson to ever switch up his style. By now he's established his constituency, and they really don't seem to mind that he continues to drive around in the same gear, so long as he delivers the goods (darkly laconic dialogue, bizarre set pieces, and lo-fi, opulent mise en scene).

I like it when a director finds his style and sticks to it, with a little bit of experimentation here and there. But I'm more worried about Anderson's stories. To me, "Estranged Family Members Reconnecting" is beginning to be about as familiar as an Owen Wilson punchline.

But Anderson makes movies I like to see, so I'll see this one.

Its kind of a timeless kind of story. When done poorly it is unoriginal. When done well it is fresh and touching.

It all depends on the writing and directing. Ideas like this can still be amazing.

Yeah well, I kinda hated steve zissou. Though I laughed long and hard when some character referred to another as a bull-dyke.
I like Wes Anderson's style. But how about something new? Enough of the family members getting together and not getting along and divulging a secret or something.
I mean, they're all good movies, and this will be a good movie, but why are they all so similar? What's the reason for that? What is Anderson saying with all this? Anything? Nothing? something personal?

scarborough, i agree all his films are similar, and while i would like him to stretch out and try something new, his movies are way to unique to be taken for granted.

i would love to see anderson try to do some kind of action movie, just to see how he would approach it. imagine anderson making a bond movie. i dont know if it would be any good, but it would definately be interesting to watch.

I thought Rushmore and Royal Tenenbaums were 2 of the greatest movies I've seen, but I really disliked Zissou. I just didn't think it was that funny, I thought it was too far out, but that's just me. Did anyone else feel the same way? I'll still see this movie though.

Im kinda new to his stuff... but I liked Zissou and Rushmore no knowing they were both made by the same (wonderful?) man...

Im not one to judge a movie by its trailer... but this one showed me more then enough to get me excited for it...

well... when does it come out? Late September... well Ill be waiting.
