Dave is an highly improbable story, but it is heartfelt and very entertaining. You will not get bored watching this flick and you'll smile all the while. It is simple straightforward, yet with a number of nice surprise. The acting is solid, no exaggeration or caricature, just nice performances.

"Dave" is a comedy/drama that says "What if our president was an actual person." It delivers a great picture, with superb acting on all sides. Although you'll not find yourself laughing your head off, your sure to find a smile on your face. It's one of those films that you don't want to end, which proves how good it really is.

Yes. I'm giving myself a five-star rating. I'm THAT good.

A movie that will make you appreciate the hardships of the president and still make you feel good. Kline, Weaver, and Langella all play their parts in creating a comedy that still has enough of a Washington feel.

My introduction to Kevin Kline. What an awesome movie. Although having someone that looks EXACTLY like the president in every way get thru life without anyone mentioning it to him PRIOR to the White House staff is a little odd.

Great movie! Makes ya think...what if the average joe was president.

the plot is silly but it resonates more than it has any right to.

Whilst it's a bit unbelievable at times and incredibly idealistic, this is still an solid film with a great arc, plenty of laughs, some excellent performances and a few lovely messages.

A bit too sugary sweet perhaps, but generally speaking a lovely little movie. Depends entirely on Kevin Kline's marvellous performance and boundless charm.

OH. MY. GOD. Phenomenal. Hilarious. Excellent. Pick a positive adjective and it'll describe Dave. If you haven't seen it, do. If you have, see it again. Now.

Fun little political comedy with nice performances from Kevin Kline, Sigourney Weaver and pretty much the rest of the cast is decent too. Is it believable, kinda, ok, probably not, but it is a good movie, and stands up to repeat viewings, so that is something.

If only we could have a real president who took control, as Dave does in the latter third of this film. By negotiating without slacking and compromising without sacrificing the best part of the budget, Dave manages to balance the budget with a surplus. What a great film!

Directed by Ivan Reitman and written by Gary Ross (Big (1988), Pleasantville (1998)), this is a funny and warm political comedy which is original and biting. It could have been made 100 different ways, but it's good that Reitman and Ross picked an angle that manages to work perfectly. It's still relevant now, and it stands as the best film Frank Capra never made, as he would have killed for it's plot. In Washington D.C. Dave Kovic (Kevin Kline) runs a temporary employment agency, but also impersonates President Bill Mitchell (also Kline) on the side. Dave's impersonation of Mitchell is spotted by Secret Service agent Duane Stevensen (Ving Rhames), and Dave is called up to impersonate Mitchell to take the focus off an affair Mitchell is having. However, when Mitchell suffers a massive stroke, Dave is called up to impersonate Mitchell full time. Which Dave is able to do, and he has a different personality to Mitchell, but the American public is non the wiser, but Mitchell's estranged wife, First Lady Ellen Mitchell (Sigourney Weaver) learns the truth. It's a good film, with some brilliant dialogue and a good look at the cutthroat world of American politics. Kline has great fun in the dual role, and he's complimented by a good supporting cast including Frank Langella, Kevin Dunn, Charles Grodin and Ben Kingsley.

Great film. Starting to think that Kevin Kline only makes good films!

An intelligent, bittersweet, touching, funny and feelgood comedy from Ivan Reitman that succeeds thanks to Kevin Kline's charming performance as the lovable titlular character whose canny resemblance to the President (played again by the eye-popping versatile Kline) works a treat when the President suffers a stroke, leading to Dave having to live a life pretending to be the actual President. The result is a witty adventure that combines romantic comedy with political satire and has the cast consisting of Kline, Sigourney Weaver, Frank Langella and Ving Rhames to thank for creating a measure of conviction in a film that appears to have a risky premise, but ultimately ends as a memorable viewing that is the sort of film that if you see on the telly, you cant help but watch, no matter how many times its been viewed.
