In 1974, THE DAVID STEINBERG SHOW entered the Canadian airwaves, with the inimitable comedian welcoming a variety of guests onto his fictional show. Similar to THE LARRY SANDERS SHOW, performers were shown both on and off stage, while recurrent characters such as musician Spider Reichman (John Candy) and security guard James MacGregor (Dave Thomas) added a modicum of continuity to each show. The passage of three decades is not always kind to once-timely comedy schtick.
I have seen references to a 1972 summer replacement show of Steinberg's that was thought to have been edgy and risk taking for it's time. I am assuming it had very little relation to this program which broadcast on CTV in 1974 and 1975. Not only does this show lack edge, it seems dated for even the 70's. Perhaps CTV
