In Kenneth Branagh's stylish suspense film, Branagh stars as Mike Church, a Los Angeles detective who is drawn into the life of Grace (Emma Thompson), a woman with amnesia who is plagued by disturbing nightmares. Attempts to help her regain her memory bring them to Franklyn Madson (Derek Jacobi), a mysterious hypnotist who runs an antique shop. Under hypnosis, Grace claims that in a previous life she was Margaret Strauss, a concert pianist who was murdered by her jealous husband, Roman. Further sessions lead her to believe that Mike is actually Roman reincarnated and that the two are destined to re-create the murder. Mike must then attempt to solve two mysteries--the real identity of Grace and the true story behind a 40-year-old crime. Branagh's taut thriller also features Robin Williams, Andy Garcia, and Campbell Scott. [More]

Reviews for Dead Again
A miscalculation from a prodigious talent who has forgotten that you squeeze the life out of romance when you don't give it space to breathe.
Overwrought and overly facile look at accounts payable in the afterlife.
Suffice it to say that if Dead Again is not a great film, it's certainly one wildly entertaining ride.
Dead Again was a fresh breath of air into the genre by exorcising the elements of a bygone era into a resurrection of how entertaining a great mystery can be.
Awesome mystery. The afterlife subplot works perfectly and sells the surprise twist.
An achievement that rivals Hitchcock's best work and stands out as one of the most intriguing and memorable thrillers of the 1990s.
Outlandish and theatrical, Dead Again is an engaging piece of entertainment.
Kenneth Branagh's valentine to Alfred Hitchcock is too clever for its own good.
