I love Casina, I also enjoyed A Prophet. I dont really enjoy Nicholas Winding Refn's films, but he seems to really like them. So cool.

A little too much faux-machismo, but it could have been worse. I still have to see "Bullhead" and the "Pusher" trilogy. "Valhalla Rising" is not very good though. That's gotta be straight Scottish pride talking. No "Highlander" instead? "Hunger" and "Prophet" are not exactly enjoyable, but very powerful. "Casino" is brilliant. But it still isn't quite "Goodfellas", by any measure.

I like this list a lot. The only one I haven't seen is Bullhead, but for me A Prophet is one of the finest crime films in ages, a real masterpiece, while Steve McQueen I find to be one of the fienst directors to have emerged recently. Nice selections!

I'm the same way with film. It's hard to narrow it down to a few, so saying this is what I'm into right now makes more sense for any film lover. Hell I was into the A team just 2 years ago. Great film? No lol. But it was a fun turn your brain off and enjoy the ride type film for me. Drive is an absolutely beautifully violent film. Killing them softly is very good also. Made me think of drive a lot in that slow burn, ultra violent way.

Very nice list. I find Pusher II to be the best of the that trilogy, but agree with him on the first being the worst; as soon as Mikkelsen is out of the movie, I was no longer engaged in anything going on and was quite bored. A Prophet is among the best films since the turn of the millinieum, so I am glad to see it pop up on here. Hunger is very good as well.

Valhalla Rising is an incredibly strange film and one of the few I do not really have an opinion on whether I liked it or not, or whether it was good or bad, it simply is. Although I cannot judge on how great of a film it was, it was definitely a very memorable one. The first fifteen minutes or so that are completely silent besides the sound of wind going through the mountains and faint noises made by footsteps or other signs of life are truly incredible, though. I hope one day Refn will make a full blown silent film in the same vein, as I was awed by the beginning of Valhalla Rising.

Besides the classic, Casino, the only one I've seen on this list is Bullhead.

BULLHEAD is brilliant..a top 5 film of the 125+ movies I've seen released in 2012. (It's better than Zero Dark Thirty, Lincoln, Argo, Looper, etc.)
It's an animalistic, yet very human film. Itâ??s dark, gritty, mysterious, suspenseful, ominous, and introspective. Meanwhile, there are powerful emotions at play like: rage, fear, inferiority, verility, masculinity, severe trauma, and your past catching up to you. Matthias Schoenaerts is brilliant in his depiction of a man who carries mental/emotional/and physical scars. Supposedly, he put on 60 pounds of muscle leading up to and during filming for this role, as we actually see him get bigger throughout the movie. This film is very well made. PHENOMENAL cinematography, great directing, great acting, very good music used to great effect to tell a very good story. I really, really like these kinds of movies. The dark and unsettling underworlds of crime dramas are just fantastic when theyâ??re done well, and this one is really done well. CHECK OUT BULLHEAD if you haven't already.
