If you want a chilly, suspenseful thriller, watch Transsiberian, which co-stars the completely-wasted-here Kata Mara.

Although not a terrible movie, the glimpses of greatness hidden behind the forced mediocrity only serve to remind viewers that Deadfall could have been a tauter, more focused experience than what we were given.

Deadfall flaunts Eric Bana's badassery, but not much else.

"Tangential" and "forced" are really the two words that describe this movie best. It had such potential, but as to why Dean let is spiral out of control so badly remains a mystery.

"Deadfall" ends up being little more a really good Lifetime Movie of the Week.

This could be a film that will suck you in if it's on your tv on a lazy Saturday afternoon, but I have U-verse. I'm sure something better will be on one of those other channels.

Big fleecy hats with earflaps are doffed to most of the actors. But, with this script, Deadfall was always destined to be a whiteout.

Grim displays of guilt and remorse are on show from all concerned, but the seriously glum expressions of a high-calibre cast can't inject any meaning into such a contrived story.

It's sort of like "Fargo," only with a higher body count and without the wood chipper.

Deadfall feels like a lot of different movies including Fargo, at times. But it's cheaper and less interested in making us care for the characters and their plight.

Ruzowitzky may be an occasionally interesting visual stylist, but storytelling-wise, his second English-language effort couldn't be more stillborn.

An excellent cast and an admirable refusal to give in to its audience's pleas for relief from its blue-gray bleakness aren't enough to raise Stefan Ruzowitsky's Deadfall above your run-of-the-mill snowbelt-set nihilistic noir.

Deadfall might fancy itself as a 95-minute, wintry version of Bonnie and Clyde, but it's not in the same class with its high body count failing to justify the means, not least during the ludicrous climax.

The most disappointing aspect of Deadfall is its conventionality. For a thriller, it's light on surprises.

With a script that exposes its own mechanics and contrivances with such reckless abandon, Deadfall simply can't be prevented from flatlining by the solid ensemble cast and luscious visual palette.
