Smart moviegoers know some months you just don't need to try that hard in keeping up with new releases. January's one of those months. Sometimes September. And August definitely classifies as one. Back to Article

CaptainSiberia writes: on Aug 22 2008 08:41 PM It's only barely a remake of Death Race 2000, in which a motley, colorful cast of race car drivers drove a race cross country in which the object was to hit as many pedestrians as possibly, with high points being given for old people and babies. Gleeful madcap comedy! This is more the kind of action movie where the makers said, "**** you and **** everything you love! We're gonna give you a giant piece of ****, and you're gonna like it!" Now here's another thing. You said a lot of movies were coming out this week. A lot of movies come out every week! Why don't you do so many reviews on other weeks? Ok, Gabi starting to prove himself a little this week. Oh, I get it now. You just stick to wide releases. I'll let Anna Faris carry something! Eh? Get it? Eh? Love the line about soup, though! Kick those Disaster Movie guys in the nuts! (Reply to this) |

Badgerman writes: on Aug 23 2008 02:43 PM Tropic Thunder was one of few movies I have seen in a while wherein you left the theater feeling like you'd really been entertained. Everyone was excellent throughout with particular kudos to Downey and Cruise who seems to have found a venue he should stick to, namely eccentric cameos. Perhaps in this way he can resurrect his flagging career. Great fun. (Reply to this) |

infernaldude writes: on Aug 23 2008 02:52 PM I want to see Tropic Thunder! I haven't seen House Bunny, but I think it will be lame. To bad Farris can't land better roles. She's funny and not bad on the eyes either. I'll avoid Death Race. Anderson hasn't made a good film since Event Horizon. ( I think that's his only good film actually) (Reply to this) |

davechung writes: on Aug 23 2008 03:27 PM The House Bunny was a real crowd pleaser! I caught it this Friday in a sold out theater (to my surprise!). For the demo it's reaching for, the jokes definitely hit and Anna Faris is not only hot, but really charming as well. Outside of the target demo, I had a group of grandparents sitting to my right who couldn't stop laughing and commenting on how "adorable" she is in the film. Some middle/high schoolers in front of me were in absolute hysterics and I have some good laughs too. Personally, as an Anna Faris fanboy and lover of teen-ish comedies, I thought it was great. If you don't like Anna Faris' brand of funny voice/expression comedy, the movie won't be funny to you at all. But if you do, you'll laugh out loud a bunch of times. The critics were right in saying that she is the best part of the movie by far though. The story is a little blah, but Anna Faris made it fun. Nothing else really caught my eye this weekend :( I regretfully did catch Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants 2 right after THB after pulling the "double-feature" out of convenience. In terms of general entertainment value, that movie made The House Bunny seem like an epic. (Reply to this) |

I grew up on that movie! Oh well, atleast it was better than the STREET FIGHTER movie w/ Van Damme. P.S. Since Dave vouches for HOUSE BUNNY, I think I'll check it out. (Reply to this) |
