In DECALOGUE IV ("Honor thy Father and thy Mother"), Anka, a teenager living with her father, finds a letter from her long-dead mother, learning that her father might not be the man she thought he was. Both episodes provide complex yet incisive looks at the taboos of love and family. Kieslowski, working with cowriter Krzysztof Piesiewicz, triggers an onslaught of philosophical and emotional questions without providing any easy answers.
