From master Polish director Krzysztof Kieslowski, this set contains episode seven and eight of the ambitious, well-regarded 10-part series about morality in the modern age, inspired by the Ten Commandments. In DECALOGUE VII ("Thou shalt not steal"), a young woman who had a daughter, Ania, at 16, was compelled to pretend that the child was her sister. Eventually, she is unable to bear the sight of another woman mothering her child; her reactions take the story on unexpected twists and turns on questions of parenthood, family, and love. DECALOGUE VIII ("Thou shalt not lie") concerns a woman who confronts an ethics professor who had refused to shelter her during the Nazi occupation years before. Kieslowski's film is emotionally intense, a rare viewing experience that explore issues in a direct, honest manner. It is this sincerity and lack of pretension that make all the DECALOGUE films, originally made for Polish television, a significant cinematic event whenever the series screens theatrically in cities all over the world.
