Sarah and her mother work as servants on a farm in Northern Ireland, run by an old widower and his two sons. Not long after the patriarch drowns in a storm at sea, the two brothers begin to fall in love with the strong-willed Sarah. The older brother is gentle and attentive, while his younger sibling is physical and mostly silent. Sarah responds to both men, taking each one as a lover.
