A three-year break and the skyrocketing solo-careers of its members contributed to rumors that Destiny's Child was calling it quits after the release of their 2001 album SURVIVOR. The release of DESTINY FULFILLED in 2004 proved these speculations false and reminded the public of where Beyoncé (who had by now become a huge superstar) got her start. Formed in 1990 when its original members were only 10 years old, Destiny's Child grew into its own as one of the top-selling female R&B groups of the 1990s. Going through many lineups, the band finally settled on Beyoncé Knowles, Kelly Rowland, and Michelle Williams.
Beginning with the upbeat "Lose My Breath," followed by the equally energetic "Soldier," DESTINY FULFILLED shows the groups continued commitment to the pop song. The rest of the album retreats into more soulful ground, with several slow songs in which Rowland and William's talent, though strong, take a backseat to Beyoncé's. This dual disc features the CD version of DESTINY FULFILLED on one side and a DVD-Audio version with bonus video material on the other.
