When Antoine, a successful gigolo with a sick fish, has to leave the country for a few weeks, he offers Deuce the opportunity to housesit for him. Predictably, Deuce manages to trash the place and must enlist the aid of pimp TJ (Eddie Griffin) to help him pay for the damages. TJ turns him, in a series of absurd preparations, into a prostitute. The subsequent encounters with self-conscious females provide the film with its biggest laughs, and eventual moral: enable a woman to feel confident about herself and she will learn to love you no matter what you look like. Reviews for Deuce Bigalow: Male Gigolo
The cast is good, and the sight gags are filled with funny references to The Matrix.
A couple of these situations are funny, a few are real clunkers, and it all fades away like a slightly bad odor.
How many more times are we going to have to sit through that feeble gag about the latex glove and the body cavity search?
Attend enough movies and you begin to pick up clues. 'Directed by Akira Kurosawa,' for example, means something. 'Starring Rob Schneider' means something else.
The jokes are unabashedly pitched at 12-year-old boys, with flatulence, masturbation and excretions as the leading themes.
It is simply a very funny comedyno more, no lessand sometimes, that is enough.
