Jeffrey Wright to Be Next "Die Hard" Villain?
by Scott Weinberg | October 04, 2006
Blog Article | Discuss Article
The "Die Hard" series is well-known for giving Bruce Willis nasty villains played by good actors: Alan Rickman, Bill Sadler, Jeremy Irons... And now comes word that Jeffrey Wright might be pulling villain duty for John McClane's fourth manic misadventure.

From the humorously titled website JewReview.net: "Since I wasn’t able to actually be in my hometown of Baltimore for the set of "Live Free or Die Hard," I sent out my feelers for at least a few scoops on the fourth installment of the Bruce Willis action flick. And wouldn’t you know it, JewReview.net has some major news coming out of the Len Wiseman-directed flick.

Jeffrey Wright ("Syriana," "Angels in America") is going to be that one guy making John McClane’s life a living hell? And it would only make sense, as production moves from Baltimore to Wright’s hometown of Washington DC.

Right now, all we know is he’ll be the head of an agency; McClane will then be leading the team to stop him. A call back from Wright’s people hasn’t been returned to confirm any extra plot details."

A team? Why does McClane need a team? He hasn't before. There was Zues in the 3rd, but that is not a team. John is basically a solo act. That is like introducing the team aspect in Rambo 4. I don't know why so many people are moving to a team. Rambo IS a one man show. John McClane was too.

maybe they'll kill off the team, making it personal.

and im having mixed feelings on the title "Live Free or Die Hard". it sounds goofy and badass at the same time.

Mark my words, this is going to be the worst sequel since Basic Instinct 2. It's going to be the biggest bomb of 2007.

Well, I'm looking forward to it, and I think that Wright is a great addition. He did a good job as a bad guy in Shaft.

i can see it
if this is a movie about some computer hacker, then I can imagine a lot of shots of actors looking very intense in front of a computer screen. However, history has taught us that movies about computer hackers are destined boxoffice poisons.

McClane's character is older and much more seasoned now. It would make sense for him to have moved up the ladder in his career. That said, I don't have any problem with the idea of him heading up a team. Why not? The same-old-same-old would defeat the purpose of a sequel. I think what's most important at this point is that the script be up to par. John McClane heading a team in a great script would be awesome. John McClane heading a team in a terrible script would be horrendous.
