Forsakes much of the occasionally clever, somewhat wry dialogue and situations of its predecessors in favor of a more generic action-adventure approach.

Freshly expelled from the NYPD, McClane encounters a number of threatening phone calls from a terrorist calling himself Simon (Jeremy Irons). Simon tests McClane's wits, and allows him the chance to stop each bomb by solving a riddle. In addition to using his previously learned anti-terrorism tactics (DIE HARD, DIE HARD 2), McClane enlists an angry store clerk, Zeus (Samuel L. Jackson) to decipher Simon's tricky enigmas. DIE HARD WITH A VENGEANCE finds director John McTiernan returning to the creative helm of the series he began in 1987 (Renny Harlin directed DIE HARD 2). For the third film in the detonative series, McTiernan creates a story line which floats from psycho terror to sonic action to interracial comedy relief. The acting is something to be marveled at as well. Bruce Willis miraculously evokes sympathy whilst playing the angry police man and Jeremy Irons' performance as the villainous Simon is reminiscent of an Eastern European James Bond megalomaniac. Samuel L. Jackson's is also worth mentioning as he gives an angry discourse in racism and then pops off one liners, both ice cold and slick. [More]

Reviews for Die Hard 3: Die Hard With a Vengeance
No believable characters are developed. The action sequences weren't believable, either.
A tepid continuation of the series saved only by some decent action scenes and Willis trading barbs with Jackson. Jeremy Irons is a poor follow-up to Alan Rickman.
They killed an interesting gimmick in order to squeeze it into an already tired franchise.
Who would have thought that the Die Hard series would sputter down to this sad, empty little film?
The action, albeit spectacular, is rather predictable and the film nearly collapses in the finale.
While it is funny and full of spectacular action sequences, Die Hard: With a Vengeance is clearly the runt of this trilogy's litter.
It's a tense, terrifically funny action dazzler with a wow level in special effects that will be hard to top.
The point of an action thriller like this is that it's supposed to be exciting and keep you on the edge of your seat. Die Hard With a Vengeance does neither.
While parts one and two built momentum to an exhausting, exhilarating climax, part three has too many peaks and valleys (and, it seems, more of the latter than the former).
It makes for dynamic action that feels unstaged. And the fact that it obviously must have been staged makes it an even greater accomplishment.
An audience on the edge of its seat doesn't quibble about plot points.
