Berlin threesome Die Tödliche Doris were indisputably one of the most influential and groundbreaking bands to come out of the German avant-garde music scene in the 1980s: their unique blend of intelligent post-punk and performance art earned them a passionate critical following. Their first LP, 1981's GEHÖRLOSE MUSIK, has long been unavailable and much sought-after, and in 1998 the band's founder, Wolfgang Müller, decided to re-release it--but not in its original form. Instead, this version of the album is "soundless music," interpreted into sign language by translators Dina Tabbert and Andrea Schulz, and using symbols and gesture to convey the music's meaning and emotion, in an attempt to create an entirely new art form that defies easy description. Also included here is a thoughtful and revealing interview with Müller. [More]
