Average Rating: 1.8/10

Consensus: Returning to their seemingly bottomless well of flatulence humor, racial stereotypes, and stale pop culture gags, Friedberg and Seltzer have produced what is arguably their worst Movie yet.

Rated: PG-13 [See Full Rating] for crude and sexual content throughout, language, drug references and comic violence.

Runtime: 90 mins

Genre: Comedies

Theatrical Release:Aug 29, 2008 Wide

Box Office: $14,174,654

Synopsis: Jason Friedberg and Adam Seltzer--the two guys who did EPIC MOVIE, DATE MOVIE, SCARY MOVIE, and MEET THE SPARTANS--bring you DISASTER MOVIE, a compendium of gross-out gags and reference-check... Jason Friedberg and Adam Seltzer--the two guys who did EPIC MOVIE, DATE MOVIE, SCARY MOVIE, and MEET THE SPARTANS--bring you DISASTER MOVIE, a compendium of gross-out gags and reference-check quasi-satire bits aping THE INCREDIBLE HULK, INDIANA JONES AND THE KINGDOM OF THE CRYSTAL SKULL, HIGH SCHOOL MUSICAL, JUMPER, ENCHANTED, DON'T MESS WITH THE ZOHAN, SEX AND THE CITY, NIGHT AT THE MUSEUM, and so on. The story is structured via CLOVERFIELD with Will (Matt Lanter), after having a 10,000 B.C.-style dream involving an Amy Winehouse look-a-like (Nicole Parker), races against time to rescue his girlfriend (Vanessa Minnillo) who is trapped in a museum with references to TWISTER; meanwhile kids who look like the teens from SUPERBAD try and score booze. What? Along for the ride are a JUNO-esque slacker girl (Crista Flanagan) and Gary "G-Thang" Johnson; there are take-offs of ALVIN AND THE CHIPMUNKS, and celebrity impersonations of Dr. Phil, Michael Jackson, the real Kim Kardashian, and the ubiquitous Carmen Electra; lots of dances and fights and dance/fights (à la STEP UP and STEP UP 2 THE STREETS). The comedy talent here is mostly imported from MAD TV, particularly Parker, who also does ENCHANTED and a mean Jessica Simpson. The recipe here, as before, is to cram in as many pop-culture references as possible, douse liberally with gross bodily fluids, and serve face forward. In other words, it's the perfect film for loud shouts and inappropriate laughter with a roomful of one's most off-color cohorts. [More]

The "jokes" are limp and pathetic or stillborn, timing is ignored, performances are a not-so-giddy mug-fest. Audiences are left wondering when the freshman cast is going to learn the rudiments of performing.

A dumb, dumb film, to be sure, but also undeniably funny in more spots than a right-thinking, mature adult person feels comfortable admitting.

Honestly, if the makers of this ever got serious about making web-based comedy, I reckon that they would absolutely rock it.

Since they have so little material to work with in the first place, Friedberg and Seltzer flog each joke well beyond its limits.

A woman a few rows in front of me at the preview chose to write 20 minutes worth of text messages, rather than watch the movie. Even though she was not paying, the price was clearly too high.

If Judd Apatow is the Jesus of modern comedy, Seltzer and Friedberg are the Anti-Christ - and sadly just as prolific

Pointlessly rancid and redundant...Hopefully, Disaster Movie will indeed vanish as quickly as a three-second burp at a chili-eating contest.

Why challenge yourself when you can have your Juno stand-in end a fight by lactating on the "Sex and the City" girls? Nope, a better question is why did I subject myself to this movie?

It's hard to put into words just how excruciatingly painful it is to watch Disaster Movie, but let's just say it will make you appreciate those dreadful experiences in your life like, say, going to the dentist or waiting in line at the DMV.

Disaster Movie is not, as you might have guessed, a parody of disaster movies. But it is a disaster.

Disaster Movie is lazily written, insulting rubbish and it's unquestionably one of the worst films of the year. Avoid like your life depended on it.

Of Disaster Movie it is difficult to speak, or even think, articulately, a handicap that seems to have afflicted the film’s makers.

Personally, The Sneak would like to place Friedberg and Seltzer on a blazing upside-down boat which is about to be hit by a meteorite.

Not a comedy, more a medical affliction, Disaster Movie’s symptoms include apathy, regret and eventual despair.
