District 9 represents the sloppiest and dopiest pop cinema -- the kind that comes from a second-rate film culture.
What RT admins need to understand is that Mr. White isn't writing movie reviews. He is writing political opinion essays. He really is the Rush Limbaugh of movie critics. It's entirely obvious that he just craves attention.

paul The Man
Probably the least intelligent review of anything I've ever read. I think he writes with the full intent of receiving heavy insults to fuel a sick maso-sadistic inner self.
Aug 14 - 04:13 AM
"Produced by intellectually juvenile New Zealander Peter Jackson."Really dude? Really? You mean the guy who scripted the greatest book trilogy ever written into some of the most beloved films of all time, and is redefining special effects and digital film every day, is "intellectually juvenile?" This alone invalidates ANY of your arguments.
Aug 14 - 04:16 AM
See here's the thing though, I don't mind a negative review of a movie. Look at the five reviewers that have given it a rotten rating.
CLAY CANE - Agrees with the Tomatometer 66% of the time.
CHRIS BARSANTI - Agrees with the Tomatometer 70% of the time.
MICHAEL SRAGOW - Agrees with the Tomatometer 74% of the time.
MARK DUJSIK - Agrees with the Tomatometer 78% of the time.
Then there's good old Armond. 50%. He could flip a coin and come up with that. Now look closer, just looking at 2009 because I don't feel like going back further.
Major releases where he agreed with the TM.
The Hurt Locker
Taking of Pelham 123
Angels and Demons
Fast and Furious
Major releases where he disagreed with the TM.
Julie & Julia
Harry Potter &THBP
Land of the Lost
Monsters vs Aliens
I Love You Man
In other words what are most of the ones he's agreed with the TM? Limited release/independant movies that are going to have far less page views.

Unfortunately RT won't get rid of his reviews because of the 482 (well 483 now) comments he sparked with ones like this. It's the best when RT writers defend him and his opinions. Just read Ebert...he's solid on pretty much everything (even when you disagree, he usually has a great argument (here's a parenthasee inside a parenthasee)). RT is making a mockery of their own Tomatometer... (www.metacritic.com)
F*** RT for backing him.
F*** him for his douchebaggery

"I hate everything that doesn't suck."
Aug 14 - 06:23 AM
Armond White hates it? It must be a good movie then.
Aug 14 - 06:54 AM
If RT won't toss this tool from the pool, then maybe at least they could offer a feature where you can filter out reviewers whose opinions you don't agree with so that you can get a more accurate picture of what you consider the film's tomatometer should be.
Aug 14 - 07:40 AM
At least reading his reviews of movies that are real great pieces of work is funny. I mean, his review of "Up" made me laugh, as did his for "The Dark Knight"...and the list goes on and on...The New York Press is a worthless paper, and more so because they keep this wanker on.
Aug 14 - 07:41 AM
Please. Just end it already.Whoever said "opinions can't be wrong" ... never read one of this guy's reviews.(Yea yea, in the technical sense, by the dictionary definition, an opinion can't be wrong, but your opinion CAN be so stupid it doesn't deserve to be shared with anyone...ever)Movies Armond White has disliked (All over 90% on the tomatometer) :District 9, Up, In the Loop, The Wrestler, Star Trek, The Dark Knight, Slumdog Millionaire, Milk, Iron Man, There Will Be Blood. Movies Armond White has liked (All under 30%) : I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry (ehhh I thought it was funny too), War (!!), Next Day Air, Transformers 2, Confessions of a Shopaholic, Never Back Down, Land of the Lost, Dance Flick, What Happens in Vegas...sigh...There's disagreeing with the masses, and then there's just a point where you have to question your tastes.
Aug 14 - 08:02 AM
it's really not funny anymore. This guy should be fired or at the least, RT should stop considering his reviews. RT will lose its credibility if it continues to persist and boast about White's idiocy
Aug 14 - 08:09 AM
After watching the movie this morning, it just further backed up all thoughts I had about how bad of a critic Mr. White really is. I am not one to go by what the majority of critics think. If I like a movie that is crap I'll give it a good review. If I hate a movie, it gets a bad review. I at least will try to explain my reasonings for disliking a movie. Mr. White just spouts complete bs here. Get over yourself. It's a real shame that the only reason you are employed at all is because you get lots of negative attention. As they say though, no press is bad press which in itself is shameful.
Aug 14 - 09:57 AM
Seriously, is anyone surprised?Armond likes to give opposites, if the movie is bad, he gives it a good review, if its good, he gives it a bad review. And I noticed this also, sorry to bring this up but I think a lot of his reviews involve race. I mean look at his patterns, a lot of movies he rates as "good" involve or are about blacks (Norbit, Tyler Perry). Movies that he rates as "bad" don't involve them or are somehow racist. District 9 is a reference to the Apartheid, which is obviously involving race, therefore, "ARMOND'S FINAL JUDGMENT: ROTTEN".This guy just loves the attention...

I wasn't going to post anything, as the situation with the RT staff's attitude and professional made it hopeless. This includes Jen Yamato reaching out to Ebert for his take and watch him immediately defend Armond White. But then something funny happened, Ebert took it all back and is now on the side of us, the commenters. So ends this preface and onto my post:Dear RT,No disrespect to your staff but why are you guys riding on White's nuts in regards to this? He's a "big man" in real life? What, are you afraid he's going to beat you up if you say mean things? As for Jen, get a grip. You're smarter than this so stop playing apolitical and get on the right side. Yes everyone has a right to their opinions but Rotten Tomatoes and furtherly, IGN, have the right to exclude this opinion from the site. It's blatantly obvious your readers (you know the ones that are your traffic and only source for ad-generated revenue) do not appreciate Armond White's opinions. To sum of the collective voice of the RT community: Obvious troll is obvious. You need us more than we need you, movie reviews are a dime a dozen but a dedicated fanbase that isn't crapped on or alienated is not. White is not a critic, he's a newspaper pawn that is allowed free reign on attention whoring in whatever way possible. I do not think his intellectualism is lacking but his vast knowledge affords him the ease in which to eviscerate ANY movie he wants to give a bad review to. He does this in order to stir the chaos and garner hits for his superiors. You guys know full well that the majority of your readers do not want this guy weighing in on movies so why don't you do the right thing and give us what we want: agenda-less reviews and therefore a more accurate Tomatometer. To simply ignore the vast majority of us would relegate you guys, RT, and the Tomatometer to the category of: "Well a broken clock is still right twice a day".
Aug 14 - 10:17 AM
Who the F is this Retard? After looking at his profile, this retard gave transformers 2 and Gi Joe positives review. I bet he is working for Fox News. This loser also hates the dark knight.
Aug 14 - 10:58 AM
Right now, A.W. is just sitting back with a BIG grin. Just like in his picture. Why would RT drop him, when he brings in this much viewers! LOL!!!
Aug 14 - 12:01 PM
Armond White doesn't even know the definitions of a good 90-95% of the words he throws around, and he never actually REVIEWS a movie, he just goes on his own little tirade and fiercely drifts off topic to a sickening degree. If he can get a job in journalism and keep it, then I most certainly have a good chance! He's the only journalist/critic I've heard of that simply EXISTS, and has no other purpose in life but to be a narcissistic moron who thinks his opinion is the holy word.
Aug 14 - 12:39 PM
His reviews would be good if he a) actually reviewed the freaking movie, b) knew the definitions of at least HALF of the words he tosses around, c) stayed on freaking topic, and d) put his opinion of the movie regardless of trying to be the unique critic.
Aug 14 - 12:42 PM
He's becoming overrated
Aug 14 - 02:17 PM
Why is everyone so hateful? Why do you care what one person of many critics think? If you wanted to see the movie and were going anyway, did this ruin it for you?
If you were on the fence and the movie had a 99% favorable rating - would ONE bad review make you not go see it?
My goodness people, get a grip. The man is not racist, he just didn't like the movie and how it dealt with its subtext. I say keep him on RT.
Aug 14 - 03:02 PM
Well said J.H. I posted a comment with a similar sentiment.
People are hypocritical in calling White predictable, when they themselves are predictable in looking for a new White review just so they can bash it.
He's just one of many critics out there in the world. If they don't like his views, his reviewing, or think he's scum, then they don't need to read what he writes.
I don't let any one critic determine what I think about a movie, or whether I'm going to see it or not, nor do I take what he says so personally.
I think a lot of people just like to hear themselves speak, and they're being hypocritical by wasting their time bashing him, day in, day out.
And there is a lot of hate, and racist hate as well, bubbling all over in relation to Armond White.
If they hate him? Fine. But why do they have to bring their racist prejudices into it?
If Armond White was white, I highly doubt there'd be this much anger directed toward him. The double standard is nothing new. A black guy kills someone, all blacks are guilty, but a white person kills many people, he just happens to be a white individual, and whites, as a group, are not to blame. That one white guy acted individually.
Aug 14 - 03:26 PM
Armond Whites criteria:Black people...no/yesstupid movie...no/yeshated by all...no/yesROTTEN!/FRESH! It's not me being racist, it's a fact.
