The disconnect between the first and second half of the movie shows you how great District 9 could have been, if Jackson and his financial backers had allowed it, instead of what it is, exciting, but with nothing lingering in the mind after it was over.

I have to disagree, the transition between the first half's gorilla style documentary like shots into the second halfs more cinematic appeal wasnt so smooth. I certainly walked out of the theatre dazed with excitement over such an epic film.

I felt that the overall shakycam made it hard to determine the dramatic focus of the film overall. If the documentary parts were shakycam and the narrative parts were steadycam (or at least non-shakycam), that would have given a better visual message. But this is a minor complaint for an otherwise majorly entertaining film.
