Has Fox Chosen a "Wolverine" Director?
According to one source, the studio has the "Wolverine" director's job down to a lead candidate ... and a backup choice.
IESB.net informs us that "Disturbia" director D.J. Caruso is in the running for the "Wolverine" gig. His other films include "Two for the Money," "Taking Lives," and "The Salton Sea." But it looks like Mr. Caruso might have a different job lined up at DreamWorks, so Fox's second option would be...
Len Wiseman, director of both "Underworld" movies and this summer's "Live Free or Die Hard." Then again, Wiseman might be their first choice of "DH4" is a huge hit. How nice.

We do know that screenwriter David Benioff and leading man Hugh Jackman are on board. They just need a director.

Matanuki writes: on Jun 07 2007 05:30 AM In reply to this comment (#868308) ??? You would think Wiseman were Uwe Boll or something. "Live Free or Die Hard" looks pretty damn good. And while the Underworld story fell apart in the sequel for the bad choice of turning back the clock, the directing was good and the mythology he created for it inspired and better than a lot we've seen over the years. Frankly, my only huge complaint of Underworld mythology was how weak they made the Vampires. (Reply to this) |

Shatter24 writes: on Jun 07 2007 05:41 AM I'd be satisfied with either director As long as they respect the character, make the film darker thematically then the X-Men films, but still leave in some jaw dropping action. (Reply to this) |

frogleg writes: on Jun 07 2007 05:51 AM In reply to this comment (#868309) I never saw Evolution, but the first Underworld cribbed a lot of its mythology from existing sources. Sure, there was some originality in there, but not a lot. When White Wolf sued, I understood they didn't really have a case, but I also agreed that a lot of the mythological details were ripped from their setting. As for the main topic at hand, I don't think either director seems like a particularly inspired choice, but neither seems like a particularly bad choice, either. Neither one would scare me away, anyway. (Reply to this) |

Elixor writes: on Jun 07 2007 05:58 AM I'm not a fan of the X-men movies, but I'd give Wolverine a chance if they stay true to the character in the comics. Unless he's fighting robots for some reason this movie better be rated R and have some carnage. He's not a PG character. (Reply to this) |

Gimy writes: on Jun 07 2007 06:16 AM it won't be rated R. it'd be nice but, won't happen. comic movies are ONLY about making money, hence the reason comic nerds are ALWAYS complaining how they don't "stay true to the character". if they wanted to entertain YOU, and YOU alone...they'd make it exactly like the comic. wish you guys would stop making that such a strong prerequisite to these movies... he's the only character that deserves a spinoff so i don't care who's directing, i'll still see it. all this movie needs is action, and it'll make over 100 mill...easy. c'mon, make it R(ALOT less money) and stay true to the character(harder to write, harder to keep within certain boundaries) is too much of a hassle for movie makers to consider. be realistic here people... blank blank writes: on Jun 07 2007 07:39 AM if wiseman didnt have the balls to make live free or die hard rated R, i seriously doubt he'll let wolverine be rated R. that said, neither of these directors really excite me. Gimy, there are plenty of R rated comic books that are rated R and made more than enough money. sin city, 300, blade, etc. if its a good movie, people will see it, regardless of the rating. Vitamin M writes: on Jun 07 2007 08:43 AM I love the Salton Sea! great film. Loved Underworld. Cool Film. Both Disturbia and DH4 look good. and with a franchise character like Wolverine the studio is only going to get someone they trust and can control so this will not be the wolverine movie that the fans of the comics want but it should be pretty darn close to what Singer started. so we could do worse then these two. I'm just hoping the script is good. I think either of these guys could do wonders with a great script. (Reply to this) |

sauronthegr8 writes: on Jun 07 2007 08:46 AM I hope he's meaner I hope he's meaner like he was at the beginning of the first Xmen movie. I like Hugh Jackman, but I always thought his portrayal is too nice and not nearly rough enough. (Reply to this) |

Gimy writes: on Jun 07 2007 08:49 AM blank, they've already had him in pg-13 movies...they're not going to up and put an R rating KNOWING thats going to cut off the high school crowd fan base they've previously had. c'mon, THINK. alot of people take their kids to see pg-13 movies even though the kid isn't 13(pirates??). will they REALLY take their 8 year old to an R? and there's a reason they always say "great opening for an R rated film" when a movie that has that rating does well, its OVERCOMING the rating. all those movies are FIRST movies you mentioned, not sequels that TURNED to R. you think some studio exec is gonna say, hey...screw the EXTRA 40 to 50 million dollars domestic we'd get with a pg-13...lets go for an R rating!! you guys can't really be this slow listen...i'd love to see an R rated flick(i LOVED sin city, and 300 was ridankulous by the way) but there's no chance in h3ll in this day and age of $ $ $ $$$$$$$$$ that they'd even CONSIDER it. Matanuki writes: on Jun 07 2007 09:33 AM In reply to this comment (#868318) Since this is supposed to be a prequel, it wouldn't make sense if he isn't meaner. So that's nice. (Reply to this) |

Sputnik99 writes: on Jun 07 2007 10:18 AM Well, despite the rating or faithfulness to the comics, my one hope is that ol' Wolvie gets to fight Sabertooth. They royally f-ed it up in the first movie by having Wolverine and Sabertooth meet as strangers. In a Wolverine movie, I would love to see a slash-fest between the two healing mutants, but eh, what can I do about it? (Reply to this) |

Rockslide writes: on Jun 07 2007 10:28 AM I wonder how far back in his history they will go. Wolverine: Origin would be a really cool story but there's no way they would do that. So are they going Weapon X storyline? Wolvie and the Japan storylines? Wolverine vs. the Hulk? Haha, that last one would be funny, of course though, I highly doubt Wolverine's healing ability would keep up with the damage the Hulk would easily do to him. They will probably go with a Weapon X storyline which would be great. (Reply to this) |

IMAmoose24 writes: on Jun 07 2007 10:56 AM Batman was able to make it dark and stay true to the character and all with a PG-13 rating. It can be done, they have the technology. (Reply to this) |

blank blank writes: on Jun 07 2007 11:03 AM IMAmoose makes sense, but this is wolverine. he has claws. when ke kills people, blood should come out. my favorite part of the whole X series was in the second one when the army takes out the school, and wolverine takes them out one by one (the stab the guy on the fridge is the best)... gimy, i know they wont make it R (even though kids who were 10 when xmen came out are now 18), but it would be cool if they did. anyways. whatever. Ashron writes: on Jun 07 2007 11:07 AM In reply to this comment (#868315) Sorry, it's not the director's call but the studio's as to what a movie's rating will be, and it's usually included in the contact. So better to say Fox didn't have the balls, not Wiseman. It's obvious he has no problem making R-rated movies. (Reply to this) |

unbreakable_samurai writes: on Jun 07 2007 11:28 AM I like Caruso, The Salton Sea was a sweet movie, so I'd be happy if he did it. Wiseman hasn't really done anything for me yet, I'm a big Die Hard fan, so I can officially say I will have strong feelings about Wiseman hopefully for good after seeing Live Free or Die Hard.
