Rivette's re-edit of his own "La Belle Noiseuse" is a fascinating variation on the original -- using scenes and alternate takes that weren't included in the longer version. Frenhofer, a renowned French artist, hasn't lifted his brush in years. But when a young painter and his stunningly beautiful girlfriend visit Frenhofer's chateau, the woman inspires the old master to return to work on an abandoned masterpiece. Frenhofer had set aside the painting, known as "La Belle Noiseuse", a decade earlier when it threatened to consume him entirely and destroy his fragile relationship with his wife. Stirred to action once more, he and the young model embark on a perilous collaboration that will forever change them both. [More]
