How did this movie get good reviews?

Although I enjoy all the actors in this movie, I thought the film was WAY TOO LONG and just awful. Seriously? Academy award worthy? You're kidding right?

I love how people come with the lame name calling because you didn't like the movie. I agree with the length of the film. I enjoyed it, but it was way too long

I agree, August. Overlong and utterly dull. Overrated, like Tarrantino himself.

Yeah, Academy Award worthy. It got good reviews because it's insanely entertaining, extremely well-crafted, well-written, and phenomenally acted. Tarantino explored slavery and at the same time was able to incorporate his style into it. The film isn't too long at all, I wish it was even longer. Not just because it's so entertaining, but because we would've known more about Broomhilda and her marriage to Django.

I agree completely. All of Tarantino's films are long, so it's really nothing new. I felt the pacing, action, and dialogue were darn near perfect though. I also liked "Inglorious Basterds" as well, but I felt that one dragged on a bit. The two movies are very similar actually, but I think Tarantino got "it" right a little bit better this time around.

Reservoir Dogs isn't long. I loved Inglourious Basterds and it didn't drag on for me. But still, Django was paced faster and had more likable characters.

I only liked Waltz really. I thought Django was very 2 dimensional and you weren't really supposed to 'like' many other people... I applaud Tarantino for Waltz in Basterds where we actually HATE him passionately but are hypnotized when he's on screen. Like Javier Bordem in No Country... Django is over-rated only because it came out at that magical time when people get drunk off a movie RIGHT before Oscar season.

That scene in Basterds in the bar is sooooo long but flies by because the tension and dialogue is superb! If this is part of an apparent perios piece trilogy of Tarantino's as Reservoir, Pulp and Brown are, I place it as the Jackie Brown of the series.
