There's nothing static about [Von Trier's] technique, but everything else about the movie is dreary and closed off.

Lars "Eurotrash" von [added for aristo pomposity] Trier, who gushed sympathy for Hitler at Cannes while dissing Israelis as pains in the ass, brings the NAMBLA-loving Danish sensibility to the big screen. Sucker. You watched the trailer and had no hint the 1930-era setting was all painted on a stage floor. This Duke of Puke hates humans, and poor, rural Americans are portrayed as worthy of obliteration.

SPOILER: They all get gunned down. Grace Mulligan, portrayed by Nicole Kidman, is the passive victim of sado-masochism by...von Trier. The orgasmic machine gun fire ending will not erase stupidity and perversion that makes Ed Woods look like Mother Teresa of Calcutta. This caricature of America reminds me of the "African-American" that appeared on Scandinavian TV in the eighties. Decrying racism in America, this guy was a ringer from Russia who had nothing like an American accent. But the Scandi's couldn't tell. Lars is just that ignorant. Von Trier doesn't even know that an apple harvest is not a singular event but a continuous picking that doesn't yield twigs like a wheat harvest would yield straw.

Heil von Trier for his honesty. Hitler was a murderous, impotent sado-masochist that deserved to be lauded by this cinematic fellow traveller. May all such cultural useless eaters be entangled in wild gooseberry bushes and bleed out from a thousand cuts. Even that would be more merciful than this three-hour paen to deadly disdain that inspired the slaughter of 77 in Norway.
