I actually had the great privilege to interact personally with Mr. Ebert for a short period of a few years. I'm very emotional over his passing. I wrote up the experience for anyone interested on slashcomment.com. I'll never forget how he changed my movie eye.... Incredible individual. My heart goes out to his wife.

sad news, I think Roger Ebert was a fine film critic but in teaming with Gene Siskel they became the Lennon/McCartney of movie reviewing, by giving both sides of opinion they gave movie fans much more insight to ponder on

when i first heard he was gone i didn't react at all. then 20 minutes later i suddenly started crying

aw..no wonder i don't see his reviews lately. R.I.P.

Im glad to see this is on the front page of tomatoes. He was my favorite movie critic, very sad to see him go.

Mr. Ebert wrote in a clear, unpretentious style & that communicated his real love & appreciation of film-making. He was also, most of the time (in my opinion), right in his reviews. There's surely no other movie reviewer who has had the same breadth of appeal & influence. R.I.P.

As an aspiring film-maker, i have lost my confidence because there will be no Roger Ebert for reviewing my movie, no matter how bad the movie be and how harsh his criticism be. Another lengend lost !

I wasn't his biggest fan but... he was a titan of film

Ebert, you will be missed. Your death gets two thumbs down. But, the fact that you and Siskel are back together in heaven gets a thumbs up.

He gave a bad review of JJ Abrams Star Trek as well as disputing continuity based on inaccurate information. He was a hack, and I will hate him forever.

Well, aren't you a petty little fanboy

always watched movies when ebert gave them fresh ratings even if the movie was rotten. rip
Apr 5 - 12:18 PM
For the most part I agreed with his ratings, with a few exceptions (such as his review for 'Gojira'). Goodbye Mr. Ebert. RIP.

I found Roger Ebert to be positive and generous, in a good way; very unusual for a critic. He never came off as trying desperately to be snarky or a know-it-all reductionist. I always read his reviews after i saw a movie, to see what he noticed that I missed... A dead celebrity I'll actually miss.

He will be missed, that brave man and if it wasn't for him, there would be no Rotten Tomatoes.
Apr 5 - 01:15 PM
To be honest, I didnīt always agree with him, but he had an empathetic, poetic and mostly deadly accurate way of describing a movie. His "voice" is always in my head, when I watch a movie - and forever will be.

Will miss Ebert

Probably the best movie critic ever and the one I agreed with most of the time. He will be missed.

this genuinely made me sad, I kinda at a lost for words. I loved his reviews. I can honestly say I respected his opinion and what he had to say about movies. I just don't really know what to say right now.
Apr 5 - 02:18 PM
He'll be sorely missed.
