Features a staggeringly creepy performance by Bruno Ganz, whose Hitler is both a raving psychotic and a beaten, melancholic man.
Bruno Gans is a good actor, but he is not Adolf Hitler. I have listened to hours of Hitler speeches and seen many videos/pictures of Hitler, and Gans does not even come close to looking or sounding like Hitler. That was a downer, but I knew there was no way they could find anyone close, so I wasn't too suprised. The worst thing was that you can't even understand Gans when he goes into the typical raging Hitler routine. He shouts like a maniac and his speech is slurred and unclear. I seriously doubt that the real Hitler would have ever sounded like an angry drunk in an alley.
The other big disappointment was the guy they got to play Joseph Goebbels. Wrong look, wrong voice again. Historians should help them choose the actors!!!
