Reviews for The Dreamlife of Angels
Sad and thought provoking, and the performances of its leads make it well worth watching.
There is an inspiring freshness to the film, even with the real-life pain and angst the characters endure.
Heralds a humanist cinema that neither shortchanges our minds nor cheapens what's in our hearts.
The two gifted young women [Bouchez and Regnier] are the best thing about this quirky drama of friendship and survival.
At once an intriguing mix of naivete and world-weariness, Bouchez and Regnier make us care about two young women.
We aren't just watching Isa and Marie endure the tiny triumphs and hardships of their lives; we're experiencing those ups and downs alongside them.
Using decidedly unglamorous locales and stars, director Erick Zonca has given the story what amounts to an almost documentary feel; Isa and Marie seem so true-to-life at times you might feel a bit voyeuristic.
These days it's so rare to find a movie that even works on anything more than a superficial level that it's a real moviegoing pleasure to discover one that works on many levels.
It's a compelling work about loneliness and two ways of dealing with it.
A sensitive, straightforward film that thankfully avoids sentimentality but nevertheless leaves a visceral impact on its viewers.
In an American indie, the two girls would be cute slackers; in Dreamlife, they're imbued with the inchoate sadness of feminine existential loneliness.
Bouchez and Régnier manage to make every scene ... crackle with a static charge.
