We need two more sequels AND a television series. Why this movie bombed at the box office is baffling and bereft of any sense.

I am a 2000AD fan. I didnt mind the 3D or 2D, I think it was brilliant. Pity there not a follow up, or a series like "the wire".

Hate to drop a bomb in here, but I didn't really like Dredd.
I felt there was a distinct lack of excitement and fun to the action sequences. Apart from the mini-gun scene, the action was somewhat dull. The very similar The Raid: Redemption was superior in the action department.
But I thought the performances were great, and I liked the characters. But as an action movie, I felt the action was underwhelming.

Fun? It was supposed to be gritty and disturbing in its frank, methodical manner. It was effective in a way Hollywood flash glosses over. You want Michael Bay go watch a Micheal Bay movie.

Yeah, why should we enjoy the action? I mean, when has a science fiction movie ever had action that was enjoyable? I would much rather disturbed by a sci-fi than actually be entertained by it.

i watched the special features on the dvd, and someone cant remember who said this is the first movie, either that or they were referring to the Sly rubbish! cant imagine there wont be another film, hopefully we wont have to wait quite so long for the sequel as we did for this!

The casting was perfect and it stayed true to the comic. This is the kind of movie that should be rewarded with a sequel. If they market a bad movie people will flock to it, so instead how about they try marketing a good movie like this one.

I agree with Sean, I would have prefered to have seen this in 2D (it took me a month and half to just find a theatre that had it, which was almost as bad as Cloud Atlas, I live in a metropolitan area and in 35 miles there was only 1 theatre that had it and it was only showing once) yeah, marketers and no 2D killed this , if only I could round them up and put them in a room, with Bane, and some white apes from John Cater (of Mars, to me it will always be of Mars, when I saw the JCM I knew exactly what it was and couldnt wait for it to come out)

@Andy Scarlett Indeed my friend. they really did fuck this film from the start with the pathetic effort they put into marketing the film. i mean come on! i live in the UK and didnt see any advertisements or commercials until a few weeks after the film came out in Cinema. Also only showing it in 3D was a BIG mistake. its a well known fact that people dont like paying for 3D (eventhough for this film it made it even better) because they really dont think there is any point. i reckon if the distributors had released the film in 2D they would have seen a massive increase in Box Office figures at that to the money they would have made if the film was marketed correctly and this would have been an absolute barn stormer in the Box Office.

As much as I love the Dredd lore and all things 2000 AD, I honestly think what caused the film to bomb was lack of marketing and also the lack of 2D showings. Hopefully it'll do better on DVD.

A great movie. But the marketing was horrid. I saw this on DVD today and absolutely loved it. When I checked the box office receipts though it did horribly so I doubt there will be a sequel. Too bad. It's very deserving. A d*mn good film.

I was surprised how much I enjoyed Dredd. It's a cool action movie, nice special effects, worth a watch.
Jan 9 - 03:51 PM
I hope so too, this was my ultimate surprise movie from last year! And it's in my top 5 for sure for the year.
5. Dredd
4. The Amazing Spiderman
3. John Carter
2. Looper
1. The Avengers
I did not see The Hobbit yet, so I will not assume anything.

well i love the boondock saints, dont get me wrong. but it was a cult movie so it didnt earn much money. and sorry my first comment was aimed at paul hayes, he doesnt know jack

Ms Mills Clerks was made on a shoe string budget & Boon dock saints was only released in about 20 cinemas for a weekend only upon initial release. It also had a tiny budget . It bombed because writer director Troy Duffy was a bit of a tool & the studio wanted it to fail. It owes it s success to word of mouth and dvd rentals. Dredd is very good but not as good as both those films and a relatively big budget. Somewhere around 70 mill. So it wont get a sequel .I would like to have seen it expanded out to the cursed earth and bring in his clone family background with Fargo and rico and the likes but I don't know shit.

Hollis I thought it was a girls name. You obviously have some issues to deal with in terms of your sexuality. As for research if reading a few magazines like empire total film etc counts as research then I m guilty . I hope you can resolve your phobia & come to understand that whether you like girls or boys it doesn't really matter. Whats important is that you find someone to love you for you . Do you understand Hollis ? We are built for love, jesus said so .
Jan 13 - 04:54 AM
so you read all those magazines to school me with your bullshit argument, and then tried to offend my sexuality. Then you said we were all built for love and it doesnt matter if i like girls or boys, you are wrong on many levels. the bible says if a man were to lay with another man, its an abomination. im completely straight, Hollis is a tough cowboy name...while the name paul sounds like a fat guy playing Assassins creed.

You guys need to keep fighting with each other online. Internet arguments are always fruitful and insightful.
Jan 13 - 03:27 PM
I know tis brilliant. you could make it up. Hollis is a tough cowboy name. Fair enough. The bible says a lot of things that are complete nonsense . That abomination one is the most over used quote ever and in fact is a poor translation from the original texts. It also says milking goats on a Tuesday before a full moon in Palastine while using your left hand is an abomination. Lets not get too biblical. We were discussing a film about a fascist regime & how fab it was. Hollis you re my kind of guy. i like you but you don't paint yourself as the most open minded chap on this green earth. As for assassins creed & being tubby I m afraid I d be 0 for 2 on both. Not that being fat is a bad thing or liking Assassins creed for that matter, It s just Im so poor i find it hard to over eat and I only have a ps1 . Are cowboys all like they are in the movies?

Steven Potgeter
It made less than half of what Stallone's did in the 90s and that fill was considered a flop
