Screen Gems Gets Rolling With Its "Tekken" Adaptation
Variety brings news of the next video game movie to hit production. The title is "Tekken," and the property was picked up by Screen Gems (from Dimension), with a production date scheduled for late fall. Director Charles Stone III ("Drumline," "Mr. 3000") is an admitted fan of the "Tekken" video game, which is news that might give other fans some high hopes for the movie version.
Mr. Stone will rewrite the original screenplay, which was written by the team of Michael Colleary & Mike Werb ("Face/Off," "The Mask"). Those unfamiliar with the video game will want to know that the story "centers on two childhood friends who enter a worldwide martial arts tournament. As they progress, the pals move toward uncovering a secret that lies within the mysterious Tekken Corp."

jeremyd4 writes: on May 20 2005 12:01 AM There's something about movies involving tournaments that immediately make them sound craptacular! Just like with Mortal Kombat, the tournament will be the main focus and not anything of substance. There's so many computer games out there with decent storylines that could easily be adapted into successful movies. As mentioned there's Metroid, Zelda and Halo. There's also Prince of Persia, Max Payne, Half Life, RTC Wolfenstein (when have movies with Nazis not worked?), Warcraft, Turok etc. ...And oldies such as Leisure Suit Larry, DiG, Full Throttle, Flashback, etc. ....and the day I get a movie of Monkey Island - I will die a happy man! Plus that's a LucasArts games so I don't see why they haven't considered it!! (Reply to this) |

new_school_critic writes: on May 21 2005 05:37 PM Anyone who thinks that this movie is going to be good, has no knowledge of film or cinema. This movie is going to suck. Not only does pretty much every video game adaptation suck, but Tekken isn't even a good video game to adapt. Not to mention look at the movies they credited the director with "Drumline" and "Mr.3000", Hollywood needs to be reformed. They are fucking morons, the fact that this movie is going to be made, more then re-affirms my idea that they have no ide what they are doing. Good thing a new crop of movie lovers will be taking ahold of Hollywood and actually putting out some descent films. (Reply to this) |
