Although Dumbo offers no startling innovations in animated cartooning, it is probably Disney's best all-round picture to date.

Baby elephant Jumbo Jr. is delivered by the stork to his elephant mom with much fanfare but soon receives a cold shoulder from the snobby female pachyderms and the rest of the circus due to his oversize ears. When his mother goes on a rampage in order to protect him from some snickering rubes, she winds up locked away. Dumbo is left without a friend in the world until the street-smart Timothy Mouse decides to become his manager and a telephone line full of delightful jive-talking crows convince him he can fly. Highlights include Dumbo accidentally getting drunk and experiencing the surreal musical sequence "Pink Elephants on Parade" and a soundtrack packed with such priceless songs as the Oscar-winning "Baby Mine" and the crow's soulful number, "When I see an Elephant Fly." There's nary an imperfect moment to be found in this raucous, tender, sublime film, which has been delighting audiences for generations. [More]

Reviews for Dumbo
One of the most emotionally potent of all animated movies; I might be inclined to say, of all movies, period.
Touching, comic, visually inventive and emotionally convincing, this remains a jewel in the crown of Disney's golden age.
It's one of Disney's most charming and perfectly proportioned films, uninflated by the cultural pretensions Uncle Walt was fond of slipping in.
There's a pleasant little story, plenty of pathos mixed with the large doses of humor, a number of appealing new animal characters, lots of good music, and the usual Disney skillfulness in technique.
It just tells a great story and has beautiful moments of powerful emotion that can bring a tear to the eye even 65 years after it was made.
Viewed in isolation, Dumbo feels like a practice feature film from animators whose only previous experience was short subjects.
In its scant 64-minute running time, the big top melodrama of Dumbo reduces me to a blubbering, mucus-drizzling wreck at least once with every viewing.
With its colorful circus setting and quirky characters, this short Disney movie is easy to like, but it's Dumbo himself who steals your heart.
Small wonder Walt Disney often pointed to 'Dumbo' as his personal favorite in the Disney pantheon.
Alguns dos estereótipos raciais são desconcertantes, mas o carisma do personagem-título e sua luta contra a rejeição ainda são capazes de emocionar.
An experience -- alternately hilarious, thrilling, and heartbreaking -- that will appeal to every child in the world and every adult who can still recall the happy world of childhood fantasies and fables.
