EASY confidently rises above the ranks of these romantic comedies, offering a less glossy, more penetrating vision of lovelorn life. Jamie Harris, portrayed with sparkling intelligence by actress Marguerite Moreau, is a neurotic, bright 25-year-old with a career naming peculiar consumer products. Though she gives them their identities, she's rather confused about her own. After dating a string of jerks, she's bewildered about whom to trust or how to find true intimacy. When two seemingly honorable men orbit around her, Jamie must confront what she is most afraid of. As in Shakespearean comedies, writer/director Jane Weinstock's playful, nuanced script adroitly tosses competing desires up in the air, offering audiences the delicious pleasure of watching characters squirm and wriggle before everything falls into place. Weinstock constructs a romantic, but not romanticized, world, where sex is earthy and real, hair is unkempt, social norms are gloriously turned on their heads, and smart single girls have to work extra hard to get what they want. EASY is a moving and delightful foray into that most mysterious of all realms: contemporary relationships. Marguerite Moreau ("Runaway Jury") portrays the irresistible Jamie Harris. Naveen Andrews ("The English Patient") is John, a sexy, sensitive and brilliant Anglo-Indian poet. Brian F. O'Byrne ("Intermission") is Mick, a shy but irreverent Irish comic. EASY is written and directed by Jane Weinstock, who has written and directed several highly acclaimed short films that have screened at Sundance, Toronto, Berlin and Venice. Producer Gloria Norris has worked with Woody Allen, Brian DePalma and Martin Scorsese. Paul Ryan ("Box of Moonlight") was the Director of Photography. The Production Designer was Aradhana Seth ("The Guru"), and the Costume Designer was Mona May ("Clueless"). Grant-Lee Phillips (of the band, Grant Lee Buffalo) composed the music. Robert Hoffman and Lauren Zuckerman were the editors. -- © Official Site [More]

Reviews for Easy
[Weinstock] does an impressive job of capturing the brave messiness of single life, or at least of 20-something dating.
The movie has some nice character work and quite a few good laughs to offer.
Weinstock adds such realism to her script and such great characters, you can't help but like this film even if it does sort of follow a formula.
A date movie whose unresolved conflicts allows us in the audience to discuss possible scenarios for the future.
It's easy to pan Easy as a second-rate effort to make a first-rate indie movie. But you may come away well satisfied with your hour and a half's entertainment.
It is a lively, idiosyncratic romantic comedy, funny and sexy but with a strong serious streak.
Weinstock takes you down a well-trod path in romantic comedy, but her characters are smart and funny, the twists are unexpected and, for once, a romantic triangle is presented realistically with the choice a woman must face being anything but easy.
A small but satisfying romance with a pleasant soundtrack and some unusual backdrops.
A few chuckles and an attractive cast of capable actors can't overcome a scattered script that travels well-worn indie territory.
The movie ends on exactly the right note, but it hits a lot of bad ones on the way.
In forced, quirky tedium, it drags us through love triangles, mommy issues and crying jags that make you want to shake this chick.
Weinstock's screenplay takes too many shortcuts, never letting the characters emerge as people in their own right, rather than as a collection of carefully assigned character traits.
Jane Weinstock certainly has talent, and Marguerite Moreau deserves more opportunities to shine as a lead, but the longer Easy goes on, the less of that talent you see.
... tries to coast on this surface of quirks and cute details, but Weinstock's perfunctory direction stumbles over her attempts at humor and sabotages her performers.
There's much too much going on here, enough for an entire season of a TV sitcom, which Easy should have been in the first place.
