The story is overcooked and the gritty aesthetic (handheld cameras, desaturated color) borders on cliche.

The humanization of these antiheroic outlaws doesn't feel forced, but it does feel engineered, and there's never a viewer investment to match the story's wide expanse.

If the only way to make us care about the main characters is to jeopardize their more compelling loved ones, why not make a movie about the loved ones instead?

JW's naivete that no one will get hurt will more likely inspire chuckles than sympathy for a guy who gets in over his head.

The movie builds and builds only to land in a zone of ambiguity.

Class-consciousness is the strongest suit of a drug-world yarn that could have been much more energizing.

[The problem] is Easy Money's straggly plot, a story stretched thinly between two many characters, without the dynamism or momentum to keep itself charging onwards.

Betrayals will occur and loyalties will be tested, but it's the audience that ends up ripped off.

You can see why Tinseltown took the bait, as the filmmaker is dirty and sleek in all the right places, even when he's being sentimental in all the wrong ones (notably in an extended, far too ambitious climax).

This Swedish thriller isn't just a great crime film, it's a great film, period. Based on the novel by Jens Lapidus, Easy Money is positively Dickensian in its themes and scope.

Kinnaman is a revelation as the in-over-his-head dreamer; witnessing his comeuppance as his world collapses down around him is spellbinding cinema.

Easy Money is a good mob drama with drugs, girls and enough moral conflict to fool you into thinking that these events could happen to anyone.

The most powerful moments involve private lives and social conflict, not gunfights. In this world, it's not the blood on your hands that brings you down - it's the stain on your cufflinks.

The increasing action and double crosses create an ambient crescendo leading to a final anything-could-happen rendezvous.

A heavily-armed, solid thriller directed with style by Espinosa, who takes us supermarket shopping at the eye level of a child.
