Best Movies Off the Radar 2012

Summary

The Avengers. The Dark Knight Rises. Skyfall. There were plenty of highly-anticipated, critically acclaimed films that wowed moviegoers this year. But you know all about that stuff already, so we at RT decided to give some love to a few of the overlooked, underappreciated, and, in some cases, critically dismissed movies that made an impression on us. Read on for a rundown of lesser-known gems from 2012 that we think deserve another look. Back to Article

End of Watch is one of my favorite movies of the year. Its surprising as hell how great it was, I figured it was just some stupid generic action film but there is a lot of very realistic looks at the cartel crimes, lots of funny moments and easily one of the best duos of film history.

You are most certainly not, Reimer! By the way, I believe they put the sea monsters on maps for decoration.

Not a 2012 release but "The Guard" was a great movie. And definitely under the radar.

Did someone really reallyyyy use a slot for "This Means War" on a list of "best" movies "off the radar"??? Talk about killing credibility...

End of Watch was the worst movie I saw this year. I really cannot believe so many people liked that completely over the top, unbelievable movie.

It's not the worst movie I saw this year, but it's certainly not one of the year's best either. Gyllenhaal & Pena have the best onscreen chemistry of 2012, but the main recurring criminals are a ham-fisted group of cliches. And the found footage conceit falls apart halfway through. Another movie with a similar name, THE WATCH (Stiller, Vaughn, Hill) is the worst film I've seen this year.

Dredd is extremely overrated by the tomato meter if you ask me. It's not a bad movie but it's really not a good one either. It was just a faithful adaptation of an action comic book. It was just so straight forward and basic, when people talk about the movie it's as though they placed too much meaning on a slow motion gun fight.
