Best Movies Off the Radar 2012

Summary

The Avengers. The Dark Knight Rises. Skyfall. There were plenty of highly-anticipated, critically acclaimed films that wowed moviegoers this year. But you know all about that stuff already, so we at RT decided to give some love to a few of the overlooked, underappreciated, and, in some cases, critically dismissed movies that made an impression on us. Read on for a rundown of lesser-known gems from 2012 that we think deserve another look. Back to Article

I can't believe no one has mentioned one of my top 10 for the year, "Seven Psychopaths". Chris Walken and others in top form!

"This Means War" was one of the years's worst films, as was "The Comedy". My vote for best overlooked film was "Liberal Arts".

I'll second the nominations for End of Watch and Seven Psychopaths, but at $40.8M and $15.0M at the box office respectively they might be more under the radar than off it. Off the radar? Monsieur Lazhar ($2.0M), Your Sister's Sister ($1.6M), In Darkness ($1.0M), Holy Motors ($0.5), Sound of My Voice ($0.4), Chico & Rita ($0.35), Oslo, August 31st ($0.1) ... and not just off the radar but buried underneath it, Perfect Sense ($2,959 total gross) and King of Devi's Island (straight to DVD in the U.S. despite being a huge hit in Norway). Half of the best movies every year are foreign and indie films that almost no one sees.

Sound of My Voice, Safety Not Guaranteed, Chronicle...Cabin in the Sky (in a sort of wonderfully abhorrent way).

Seven Psychopaths were overlooked million times smarter, funnier, ironic, moving, original, special than Gjango unchained! I stop follow oscar's indystry 20 years ago! Also Kill them softly (fantastic film about what America is ) , Moonrise kigdom, End of Wash, russian film White tiger was nominated for oscar but obviously far too political, truThfull, and too russian nothing new! So many similar films were overlooked cause it is indystry nothing more , monry making indystry! I was surprise that last year Separation IrNian film and my favourate took oscar but it was after Golden palm, and Golden bear in Berlin.
