Director Signed for a Return to Witch Mountain

From the 'remakes we didn't see coming' file...

Who remembers the old Disney flick Escape from Witch Mountain? OK, and of those people, how many think there should be a remake? OK, everyone else can just leave.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, director Andy Fickman has been signed to helm a remake of the mild 1975 chiller Escape to Witch Mountain. If you've seen Who's Your Daddy?, Reefer Madness: The Movie Musical, or (ugh) She's the Man, then you're already familiar with the collected works of Mr. Fickman.

Based on a novel by Alexander Key, the Disney film was popular enough to warrant a sequel (Return from Witch Mountain), a TV movie (Beyond Witch Mountain), and a TV remake (in 1995) -- so another remake is only logical, really.

Apparently Disney is ramping this project up for a quick turnaround. Awesome.

What the hell? I LOVED the originals but the TV-remake was crap. I really don't need another crappy remake of one of my childhood favorites.

Loved the originals as a kid, but the director of "Who's the Man".....for gods sake, you've got to be kidding.

Sure, nice, Disney movie I can handle, but not a movie, that hasn't even begun shooting......and WILL be a piece of crap with Andy Fickman behind the camera.

Straight to video....

? ?

David Lynch should have been the guy chosen to remake this. It's a unique choice and the result would have had a strange vibe. The first film kind of does that on a subconscious level.

Please, Please, PLEASE don't screw this up, Disney. I'm still sore over the craptacular Haunted Mansion movie that didn't know if it wanted to be a fun family movie or an actual creepy scarefest (IMO it should've stuck to the scares). This could be a great action/special effects romp if done properly, but I'm too nervous that it'll be more watered down and stinky than the tv remake a decade ago. And with that director attached to it, I see it going that route. What's next? The remake of The Black Hole?!?! (Maybe I shouldn't give them any ideas)

P.S. - Where is Mr. Boogedy and Bride of Boogedy on DVD? Anyone? Anyone?

Kim and Ike were awesome in the original movies as Tia and Tony--real, believable and fun.

OK - 41-year old dude here that loved the original movies when I was a kid in the 70s. I always wondered where the remakes were. Just a matter of time.

Hey, the original had a FLYING Winnabago. Not flying off the road due to high winds like most flying Winnabagos, but a REAL flying Winnabago (although it strongly resembled a cutout of a Winnabago being moved across the screen. Perhaps that is just me though.)
The original also had Eddie Albert, and two kids who thought getting into a Winnabago with a strange man was a feasible plan--and Eddie Albert had mega hair he could have shoplifted a cornish hen in.
More on the Winnabago - it NEVER broke down! No one EVER had to siphon out the crapper at the trailer park either. Nor did it start falling apart at all! Now I've seen the episode of Top Gear where they destroy one. I think the Federal Aviation Administration would consider a flying Winnabago a flight risk too.
