Jim Carrey With Joel Schumacher? "The Number 23" Reviewed
by Binh Ngo | September 13, 2006
Blog Article | Discuss Article
Numerologists and Jim Carrey fans will be thrilled to hear that "The Number 23," set for release in February 2007, will be another dark, tunnel-like experience the only light at the end of which is the smiling face of Carrey himself, and possibly that of his leading lady, Virginia Madsen. It looks like this one's gonna be another mind-bender.

Everyone remember "The Truman Show" and "Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind"? In those flicks, our hero is a devastatingly humble everyman who comes across a deep and mysterious secret that will shatter his psyche, his relationships with everyone around him, and the world as he knows it. This time, Carrey adjusts his "Eternal Sunshine" hat for a psychodrama involving himself as a humble dogcatcher who stumbles upon a deep and mysterious secret that will shatter his psyche, his relationships, etc, but is it the world that will end, or Carrey?

Carrey tries to hold on to precious memories in "Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind."

With another dose of Carrey-brand DIY existentialism, the film promises to be a sure-fire hit for anyone looking for a "Huh?" film, not to mention another notch on the star's "serious cred" stick.. Along with Carrey and Madsen, the film features Logan Lerman and Danny Huston, and is directed by veteran action dude, Joel Schumacher. Click here to read the review on Ain't it Cool News.

I love Carrey, Huh? films, Eternal Sunshine is one of the best films ever. Plus Huston, and Madsen are pretty cool. This is going to kick ass and is one of my most anticipated films of next year.

Eternal Sunshines was the genius of Michel Gondry, one of the best directors of all time. It may have been his first movie, but the man has been inventing (yes, really) new gadgets and making music videos that were far above the normal drivel for years.

...course, Carey and Winslet were pretty goods too. :)

Yes, the science of sleep by Gondry looks to be fantastic as well.

Eternal Sunshine wasn't Gondry's first feature film. That was Human Nature (50% tomatometer). But I agree that Gondry's direction played a big part in Sunshine's awesomeness, and his music videos are well worth checking out... Schumaker doesn't get me very worked up, but he could surprise me. I like the "what the f*&^?" genre of movie.

Jim Carrey's scored 2 out of 2 big points with The Truman Show and Eternal Sunshine and I have a feeling he wouldn't take this on if he didn't see real potential here.

However with Joel "Batman & Robin" Schumacher is directing... but at the same time Joel "Phone Booth" Schumacher is directing... so it could go either way.

As of now, I'm optomistic here. Hopefully my optimism will be rewarded.

Schumacher is very hit and miss...
You'll either get Tigerland/Phone Booth or you'll get Batman and Robin/Bad Company.
