Every other month or so I feel the urge to watch some B or C grade horror film. Probably a hold over from my formative teenage years. Usually they stay within pretty defined borders: demon/devil, vampire, or werewolf. This time I picked up a slasher flick that had caught my eye on the shelves at Wal-Mart (of all places) so I went and rented it.
Classic slasher film: group of teens, remote location, dark woods, sexual shenanagins, blah, blah.
American students stumble onto a hundreds of year old family of inbred cannibals in the back woods/moors of Ireland. Starts with a classic BF/GF camping killing and then nothing for ages. Then everyone dies in about 5 minutes.
OK, I exaggerate, but the pacing was off enough that it felt that way.
Hows it fall? Run of the mill. It did not break any new ground (unless you count the moment the cannibal tries to figure out what to do with the breast implant he just removed...), and the special affects were poor.
Now I want to give it a better rating, because not only was it reasonably well shot (above average for this type of film I'd say) but there were hints of good acting here. In particular Brandi-Ann Milbradt is not only beautiful but had flashes that showed potential. I will watch for her name in the future.
On another note, there was a fair amount of hype (well, I noticed it) that there were porn stars in this - Chasey Lain and Jenna Jameson if you are keeping score. Chasey got in, did her part (looked good doing it) and got out. Jenna pops in half way through and should have sat this one out. She looked old and... well used.
