eric l. writes: on May 29 2009 06:54 AM It's disappointing when a reviewer doesn't understand the story of a movie - especially a professional reviewer. You can see this in how he says Morganna "borrowed" Merlin's magic, but what actually happened was at the precise moment Merlin was going to entrap Morganna by overpowering her with his magic, Arthur discovered that Lancelot and Guinevere had slept together and he gives up Excalibur, driving it into the ground. The connection between Merlin and the sword was made obvious by the fact that when Arthur drove the sword into the ground, it also appeared through Merlin's chest and from that point on, Morganna had control over him. That's when she STEALS, not borrows, his magic and Merlin is banished. It appears that Mr. Ebert doesn't have the time or was not interested to understand the story properly to understand the reasoning of its characters, so he considered their actions, arbitrary. While I get where he's coming from I think that's something that defines humans and legends. The fact that they're full of contradictions (Reply to this) |

Bryan M. writes: on Oct 26 2009 10:38 PM Ebert is a douche. Why anyone would take up for him after he gave both Garfield movies 3 stars while only giving Full Metal Jacket 2 1/2 stars, and A Clockwork Orange 2 stars tells you a lot about him. Oh yeah, he gave Crash 4 stars. Wow, that's just crazy. But he managed to only give Cop Land 2 stars, and accused it of being racist. He thinks every movie is racist. (Reply to this) |
