Box Office Wrapup: "Covenant" Leads Pathetic B.O. Frame
Tumbleweeds blew through North American theaters this weekend as movie fans forgot that there were films playing at their local cinemas. For the first time in three years, no film managed to generate at least $10M in weekend ticket sales.

You thought the awards season ended with the Oscars? Please. MTV's just gearing up for their movie awards, which will be broadcast worldwide on June 8th -- but we have all the nominations listed just a click away. (Interesting to note that not only were Paris Hilton & Rob Schneider nominated for awards, but also that "Hustle & Flow" earned three noms -- a movie produced by "MTV Films.")

Second "Grudge" Rolls Into Production
Head on over to the Ghost House Pictures website and you'll find a new press release that'll thrill all you ravenous "Grudge" holders. Seems the sequel just started production in Japan, and that "The Grudge 2" will be ready for ticket-buyers this October, a month that promises a whole lot of goodies for the horror geeks.

Jodie's "Plan" -- Be #1 at the Weekend Box Office
Disney's airplane thriller "Flightplan" had little problem snagging the #1 spot at the weekend box office, but for the first time ever, two September releases managed to cross the $20 million mark in same frame. "Flightplan" hauled in an estimated $24.6 million, while Tim Burton's "The Corpse Bride" netted $20.1 million.

Lotsa Pennies for "Heaven" at the Weekend Box Office
As expected, the Reese Witherspoon romantic comedy "Just Like Heaven" handily snagged the #1 spot at the weekend box office, grossing an estimated $16.5 million from 3,500 theaters. Based on the early returns from Ms. Witherspoon's last vehicle, "Sweet Home Alabama," the tally is seen as somewhat of a disappointment, but hey, first place is still first place.

This week at the movies features two of our favorite story elements: demonic possession ("The Exorcism of Emily Rose") and fish-out-of-water-cop-buddy-action stuff ("The Man"). Will the critics see the light, or is it off to the slammer for these two?

"Transporter 2" Kicks Some Labor Day Box Office Butt
Jason Statham in "Transporter 2" was the go-to guy over the holiday weekend, hauling in an estimated $20.2 million from 3,300 screens. This is a marked improvement over the debut of the original "Transporter," which opened to $9.1 million, eventually snagged a grand total of $25.2 million, and then became a bona-fide hit once the DVD was released.
